“The roosevelt-vanderbilt conservancy's mission is to assist the park in preserving, conserving, and restoring the roosevelt-vanderbilt national historic sites in hyde park, ny (home of franklin d. Roosevelt, eleanor roosevelt, vanderbilt mansion); to improve the visitor experience at the sites; to build national understanding of and support for the historic significance of the sites; to preserve and restore historic structures and views of and from the sites; to celebrate franklin d. And eleanor roosevelt's character and legacy; and to conduct informational programs regarding the foregoing. With a target of the upcoming centennial of the national park service in 2016, the roosevelt- vanderbilt conservancy's goals are to: 1. Protect important views from the parks, working with scenic hudson and other land trusts 2. Restore views of the hudson river and other important views within the historic sites 3. Restore forests, specimen trees, and agricultural lands 4. Rehabilitate and promote trails throughout the sites 5. Rehabilitate the pond at val-kill 6. Restore the roosevelt home grounds and home garden 7. Replace inadequate facilities and equipment to maintain the sites 8. Restore for visitor use facilities used for maintenance, such as the vanderbilt coach house 9. Provide materials and visitor amenities to interpret and provide educational programming for the sites and their landscapes the roosevelt- vanderbilt conservancy will accomplish these goals by: 1. Establishing a national base of support and increasing awareness of the sites and legacy 2. Engaging in strategic and collaborative partnerships 3. Promoting and/or sponsoring research, planning and implementation projects for the conservation, beautification and preservation of the sites and the hudson river valley region 4. Conducting fund-raising activities in support of identified projects”
