BEARCAT SWIM CLUB ENCOURAGES YOUNG PEOPLE TO BECOME WELL-ROUNDED YOUNG MEN AND WOMEN WHO ARE ABLE TO FACE CHALLENGES WITH COURAGE AND ARE EAGER TO ASSUME LEADERSHIP ROLES IN THEIR SCHOOL AND CLUB ACTIVITIES NOW SO AS TO BE PREPARED TO BECOME THE LEADERS OF TOMORROW.CLUB GROWTHTHROUGHOUT 2014 BEARCAT SWIM CLUB MAINTAINED A CONSTANT 120-125 SWIMMERS AND HAD A WAITING LIST OF POTENTIAL CLUB MEMBERS DESIROUS OF JOINING THE CLUB. THE CLUB WAS PREVENTED FROM FURTHER GROWTH ONLY BECAUSE FACILITIES WERE BEING USED TO CAPACITY.THE BEARCAT MASTERS SWIM TEAM CONTINUED TO GROW INCREASING ITS MEMBERSHIP TO AROUND 30.COMPETITIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTSTHE BEARCAT SWIM CLUB COMPETITIVENESS INCREASED OVER THE 2013-14 SEASON AND HAD AT THE END OF THE 2014 SEASON ONE BOY AND ONE GIRL QUALIFIED INDIVIDUALLY FOR THE USA SWIMMING JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THREE MORE GIRLS MAKING UP A RELAY QUALIFYING SQUAD. THERE WERE FIVE GIRLS AND TWO BOYS QUALIFIED FOR THE NCSA JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS, AND 12 ATHLETES QUALIFIED FOR THE WESTERN SECTIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.STRUCTURETHE BEARCAT SWIM CLUB IS STRUCTURED IN THE FOLLOWING AGE AND ABILITY SEGREGATED ROSTER GROUPS:CUBS 1: (25 MEMBERS) THIS FIRST LEVEL OF COMPETITIVE SWIMMING IS INTENDED FOR SWIMMERS BETWEEN AGES 6 AND 10 WHO ARE NEW AND DEVELOPING AS COMPETITIVE SWIMMERS. THIS SQUAD FOCUSES ON SWIMMING, DIVING AND TURNING WITH PROPER TECHNIQUE. BODY POSITION, KICKING, GOING FAST AND HAVING FUN ARE FOCUS POINTS FOR THIS GROUP.CUBS 2: (20 MEMBERS) THIS LEVEL IS INTENDED FOR MORE EXPERIENCED 10 AND UNDER SWIMMERS. SWIMMERS CONTINUE TO FOCUS ON TECHNIQUE IN ALL STROKES, STARTS AND TURNS WHILE LEARNING MORE ABOUT RACING STRATEGY. THIS GROUP WORKS HARD, HAS FUN AND LEARNS THE PROPER SKILLS TO SWIM FAST.RED SQUAD: (23 MEMBERS) INTENDED FOR SWIMMERS BETWEEN AGES 11 AND 14 WHO ARE COMPETITIVE, ENJOY SWIMMING AND ARE CONSIDERING WHAT IT WILL TAKE TO GET TO THE NEXT LEVEL. DAILY TRAINING IS ENCOURAGED AS NECESSARY TO CONTINUE PROGRESSION IN THE SPORT. FOCUST ON PROPER TECHNIQUE IS HEIGHTENED AND THERE IS GREATER EMPHASIS ON SPEED, POWER AND ENDURANCE. GOAL SETTING AND TIME MANAGEMENT ARE TAUGHT TO PREPARE FOR THE NEXT STEP.BLACK SQUAD: (27 MEMBERS) FOR 11-14 YEAR OLDS ATHLETES AT THE STATE LEVEL AND FOCUSED ON ACHIEVING MORE STATE "A" TIMES AND SECTIONAL TIMES. FIVE PRACTICES PER WEEK REQUIRE COMMITMENT AND DEDICATION TO THE TEAM AND TO THE SPORT OF SWIMMING. BLACK SQUAD ATHLETES WORK ON ALL ASPECTS OF COMPETITIVE SWIMMING - INCLUDING TECHNIQUE, DRY LAND, PSYCHOLOGY, NUTRITION AND RACE STRATEGY.
