“| Explanation:| CAPOEIRA CLASSES AND PERFORMACES: During the 2024 2025 Abada-Capoeira DC ACDC 17th year we achieved numerous objectives including broadening our student base achieving our fundraising goals and improving our performance schedule. We have experienced steady growth in student enrollment particularly in our childrens classes. We also worked with Strathmore for summer and spring camps and with the Children Choir of Washington DC with a Ciranda workshop. Although our activities area back to mostly in person we have maintained our in-person virtual hybrid model for those who face challenges attending classes eventually. Our Portuguese language classes have continued and our students have improved their fluency. Our instruments music classes have shown greater consistency providing students with enhanced opportunities to explore various instruments and their rhythms which has resulted in better fluency and engagement in rodas. Recently we had the honor of performing both capoeira and an orchestra of berimbaus for Alma Dance Studios International Night. We had a total of 26 new students joining our program. We had 65 people experiencing capoeira through our free trial class service. Our Saturday classes continue to be held outdoors during the warm months increasing the exposure of the art of capoeira to the community. We also continued promoting performances in several schools and parks in the DC metro area. We were invited by Strathmore to perform the art of capoeira in closing their summer camp program and by the Childrens Choir of Washington DC for the end of year concert. Our students have traveled to CA NY Puerto Rico Brazil and Portugal to participate in capoeira events. These last two being the European Games in Portuga and the Zumbimba training at the Quilombo dos Palmares in Brazil a region that used to be the largest and long-lasting maroon community in Brazil and that today is protected as a cultural heritage site. ACDC held our yearly Batizado in the Spring drawing capoeiristas from across the globe to train with multi-year World Champion Mestrando Morceginho. Throughout the year students committed themselves to improving their capoeira skills with many receiving new cordas during the Batizado ceremony. We appreciate the participation of capoeiristas from New York California and Puerto Rico in our training and events and in return our students traveled to New York California and Puerto Rico to train and take part in their batizados. We also receive the visit of instructors professors and Mestres from out of town for some experience exchange as well as we participated in events with other schools and the capoeira community in the Washington DC area.”

“| Explanation:| SOCIAL CAMPAIGNS: We remain committed to supporting local nonprofits by donating small shoes and womens and childrens outerwear to Women Giving Back an organization that aids survivors of domestic abuse organizing a food donation event where we deliver filled boxes to Manna Food Center and maintaining our ongoing blood drive. It is very important to us at Abada-Capoeira DC to keep promoting successful social campaigns of charitable significance helping to build the sense of responsibility among the students for the community of which they are a part.”

Our yearly Halloween Hike complete with smores by the campfire summer visits to a local waterpark and our Anniversary celebration all contribute to reinforcing the community within ACDC.”
