Mission and Program Overview

Mission

The biotechnology greenhouse of southeastern pennsylvania was established with funds from the commonwealth of pennsylvania's share of the national tobacco settlement to accelerate growth of the life sciences industry by transforming the southeast pennsylvania region's strength in biomedical research and development into commercial opportunities. Approximately $25 million of the original government grant funding has been dedicated for pre-seed or "gap" funding for promising therapeutic, biomedical device and related technology companies, in a program called the greenhouse fund. The greenhouse fund is designed to move promising scientific projects out of the laboratory and into commercial opportunities. Additional funds were set aside for initiatives to increase the region's strengths in biomedical informatics and clinical trials.

Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

FORM 990, PART XI, LINE 9:

Unrealized loss on portfolio investments -2,128,586.

FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C:

The board of directors assumes the responsibility for oversight of the audit of its financial statements and the selection of an independent accountant. This process remains unchanged from the prior year.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The internal revenue service has classified bioadvance as exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. Accounting principles generally accepted in the united states of america require management to evaluate tax positions taken and recognize a tax liability, if bioadvance has taken an uncertain tax position that more likely than not would not be sustained upon examination by a government authority. Management has analyzed the tax positions taken by bioadvance and has concluded that as of june 30, 2015 and 2014, there are no uncertain tax positions taken or expected to be taken that would require recognition of a liability or disclosure in the consolidated financial statements. Bioadvance recognizes interest and penalties associated with income taxes, if any, as part of interest and administrative expenses. There were no income tax related interest and penalties recorded for the years ended june 30, 2015 and 2014.

PART XI, LINE 4B - OTHER ADJUSTMENTS:

Realized loss on cash investments -29,827. Realized gain on portfolio investments 543,552.
