“The form 990 is sent to the exective director whom distributes to the board of directors for their review. Upon aproval, the return is filed.”

“When the board seats a new member, the conflict of interest policies are reviewed with the new member. The board president and executive director continue to monitor the current members for possible conflicts of interest.”

“The compensation of the executive director is set by the board of directors and reviewed on an annual basis. The board is a volunteer board and therefore no compensation processes apply.”

“Governing documents are available for public inspection during normal business hours at the office of the badlands natural history association. They can also be made available outside of normal business hours by request to the executive director.”

“The mission of the badlands natural history association is to meet the following purposes: promote historical, natural history, scientific education and interpretive activities within the national park service and other similar agencies. Publish and make available to visitors pamphlets, books, folders, maps, visual aids and other theme related material either by sale or free distribution. Handle, buyn and sell government and private publications, illustrative material, goods and merchandise as may be approved or requested by the park superintendent and cooperating areas. Acquire material, objects or equipment for use in scientific, museum or interpretive purposes at badlands national park and cooperating areas. Assist in the development and maintence of the badlands national park library and libraries of cooperating areas. Assist in the aquisition, trade or protection of lands needed to preserve important features, scenic, scientific or environmental conditions within the badlands national park or cooperating areas. Promote programs of research, conservation, development and interpretation of badlands national park and cooperating areas for the benefit of the public. Sponsor and support volunteer services that enhance interpretive capacities for the public at badlands national park and cooperating areas. Assist financially and otherwise in the establishment and continuance of similar association in cooperating areas. The association works in partnership with the national park service (nps) / department of interior. They entered into a cooperating association agreement in 2015 with the nps. The objective of the agreement is for the association and the nps to work together to provide park visitors valuable interpretive and education material to facilitate the expanded appreciation of the national park system. This agreement dictates that nps will approve all sales items available for sale in the park. It also states nps will provide the association with a suitable sales area and other facilities to enable the association to conduct business. Nps reserves the right to relocate or withdraw any such facilities (upon reasonable notice) in order to meet the needs of nps. The association and nps also determine jointly the appropriate level of aid that the association will provide nps based upon the nature and extent of the association's activities and need of nps.”
