“The principal goals of juneau climbing and recreation are to promote physical education for our youth and other members of our community and encourage indoor climbing to improve persons strength, balance, confidence and physical fitness. We maintain a high degree of flexibility in overseeing the rock dumps space to provide greater opportunities and respond to the communitys ever-growing interests, especially to provide a safe indoor space that promotes physical activity despite alaskas inclement weather.”

“Rock dump operation - juneau climbing & recreation (jcr) operated the rock dump climbing gym. This benefited the community members, school groups, and other non-profit organizations that use the facility. The facility serviced 8,000 individual climber days,plus over 50 private events.”

“The rock dump hosted an annual showing of a climbing film at centennial hall - over 100 community members were in attendance. Rock dump also hosted a special showing of a climbing film (dawn wall) on a separate date to continue community involvement and support for the space.”

“Home school program. The gym offers exclusive use of gym space, plus instruction on rope use and climbing for home school students. Students completing the program demonstrate increased confidence and interest in physical activity.”
