The goals of The Hacktory are to: 1) Inspire people to rethink what's possible with technology 2) Provide formal and informal opportunities for spontaneous learning and discovery related to technology, science and art 3) Revive the definition of "hacking" as problem-solving, and encourage the general public to hack many areas of their lives 4) Foster a creative community and space where sharing knowledge, skills, and the process of learning by failing among people of many backgrounds is encouraged 5) Support educators in their efforts to implement and foster hands-on learning activities, project based learning and the space to engage in these activities within their institutions 6) Support artists to expand and transform their creative practice by incorporating technology.

The organization doubled it's revenue from the prior year, executed a highly successful 6-month residency program, had more attendance than ever, and expanded it's youth programs to include a satellite location and an additional program for older students. | ReasonableCauseExplanation/ExplanationTxt | 0 | The reason for late filing in this case was a lack of understanding of our responsibility once our organization reached a higher level of gross receipts for this tax year. 2014-2015 was the first year we were above the threshold and required to file any documentation. Previously we knew we would qualify to file a the 990-Postcard, though it wasn't a requirement based on our gross receipts at the time. This year we were just not aware of the necessity to file based on our size. In addition, the our deadline for filing would have been in November 2015, which is also when our organization had to move out of our former space and place our files, equipment and supplies in storage. We submit this explanation with an apology for not being fully aware of our responsibilities and a commitment to file in a timely manner annually in the future. |
