Founded in late 2011 to enhance corporate governance by increasing the gender diversity of corporate boards through education, information and influence, the Coalition includes corporations, institutional and private equity investors, government officials, and national women's organizations. The work of the Coalition is on the demand side of board diversity, influencing corporations to strengthen their efforts to increase the number of women on their boards. There is no other organization of this kind in the United States.”
“Membership continues to grow by approximately 30 percent per year and now totals more than 90 members. The educational efforts of the Coalition reached a broad audience during 2016 and 2017 through participation in gender diversity and corporate governance conferences in California, Illinois, Washington DC, and New York, numerous media interviews regarding the work of the Coalition, two special meetings where Coalition members shared information from their different perspectives and initiatives, and a broad use of social media.”
“The Thirty Percent Coalition continues to work through its principal membership groups to execute on strategies. The Institutional Investors in the Coalition, now representing more than 3.2 trillion dollars in assets under management, AUM, continue to make significant inroads. They just completed a successful proxy season with over 35 shareholder resolutions filed, with 26 withdrawn as a result of collaborative agreements. Since the inception of the Adopt a Company Campaign in 2012, there are now 151 public companies who have appointed a women to their boards, most for the first time and in many instances, a woman of color.”
“The Corporate Leaders have continued to grow the membership of Champions of Change, an independent group of corporate leaders, supported by the Coalition, who have the credibility and access to influence their peers in boardrooms that lack gender diversity. Starting with seven original members, it now has close to 40 members. The committee continues to work with a group of Chief Legal Officers and other attorneys specializing in corporate governance, on the role chief legal officers can play in achieving gender diverse boardrooms. Chief Human Resource Officers are also being engaged to explore ways in which they can contribute to increased board diversity.”
