Bicycle co-op williamsburg community: the co-op promotes health and accessibility in the greater williamsburg area by offering economical options to purchase bicycles. 503 retail bikes were sold at approximately one third the cost of similar new bikes, supporting bicycle ridership in the community at large and covering the overhead costs of operating the co-op. Serving the underserved: 201 of the donated bikes were serviced and then given away for free to our voucher agencies and other community partners. Through the voucher program, clients receive not only a free bicycle, but a free helmet, light, and lock as well to help promote our clients' safety and security. We currently partner with 11 different social service agencies throughout james city county, york county, and city of williamsburg to distribute bikes through our voucher program, and plans are underway to add even more agencies to the voucher program. The year culminated with our christmas kid bike giveaway where we gave away over 70 bicycles to local children served by our voucher agency partners. Education & mentorship: in 2023, we implemented do it yourself (diy) repair hours where the public can bring in their bike and use co-op bike stands, parts, and tools while being coached through repairs by our volunteer mechanics. In 2024, we served over 150 diy customers. In 2023, we also begun offering basic bike maintenance classes in partnership with jcc parks and rec, and are talking to colonial revolution, the local youth mountain biking club, about how we can support them through bike clinics and mentorship opportunities. This is an area we are looking to grow, and hope to be an educational hub for the community. Environmental impact: in 2024, over 720+ pre-owned bicycles came through our shop and were kept out of landfills. Less than 5% of donated bikes were sent to the scrap yard for metal recycling.

Public bicycling events organized during may is bike month. On the first weekend of may each year the annual pedal the parkway and bikes out of hibernation event is held in partnership with the national park service (nps), bikewalk williamsburg and williamsburg area bicyclists. The nps closes the colonial parkway to vehicular traffic and allow bicyclists and walkers unrestricted access along a seven mile route. Volunteers staffed educational bike safety and bicycle repair stations. _
