Mission

To empower victims of all crimes to achieve survivor defined justice through a collaborative continuum of advocacy, case management, and legal services.

Volare creates equitable healing and dignified experiences for survivors of crime by providing free, trauma-informed advocacy, therapeutic, and legal services in conjunction with strategic litigation, policy advocacy, and education to transform existing responses to harm.

SURVIVORS OF INTIMATE PARTNER VIOLENCE, SEXUAL ASSAULT, AND STALKING MAY ALSO SEEK VOLARE'S LEGAL ASSISTANCE WITH OBTAINING A CIVIL PROTECTION ORDER (CPO) OR ANTI-STALKING ORDER (ASO) IN DC SUPERIOR COURT. ADDITIONALLY, VOLARE'S LEGAL TEAM PROVIDES ASSISTANCE TO STUDENT SURVIVORS IN ACQUIRING ACCOMMODATIONS/SUPPORTIVE MEASURES AND/OR PARTICIPATING IN CAMPUS GRIEVANCE PROCEEDINGS UNDER TITLE IX, THE CLERY ACT, AND CLIENTS' SCHOOLS' STUDENT CONDUCT POLICIES. ADDITIONALLY, VOLARE ATTORNEYS PROVIDED 439 HOURS OF BRIEF ADVICE OR BRIEF SERVICES ON OTHER CIVIL LEGAL MATTERS, INCLUDING CUSTODY, DIVORCE, IMMIGRATION MATTERS, AND HOUSING. VOLARE ALSO COORDINATES THE VICTIM LEGAL NETWORK OF DC (VLNDC), A NETWORK OF OVER 27 LEGAL PROVIDERS DEDICATED TO ALLEVIATING BARRIERS VICTIMS FACE. MEMBERS UTILIZE A COORDINATED INTAKE, SCREENING AND REFERRAL SYSTEM, SHARED RELEASE FORM, AND SECURE MEMBER PORTAL. DV LEAP, A PROJECT OF VOLARE, MAKES THE LAW WORK FOR SURVIVORS OF DOMESTIC VIOLENCE BY CHALLENGING UNJUST TRIAL OUTCOMES; ADVANCING LEGAL PROTECTIONS THROUGH EXPERT PRO BONO ADVOCACY; TRAINING LAWYERS, ADVOCATES, AND JUDGES ON BEST PRACTICES; AND SPEARHEADING DOMESTIC VIOLENCE LITIGATION IN THE SUPREME COURT. IN FY24, VOLARE'S ATTORNEYS ASSISTED VICTIMS IN 686 LEGAL MATTERS, WHICH INCLUDED 204 CPO MATTERS, 240 CRIME VICTIMS' RIGHTS MATTERS, AND 25 TITLE IX MATTERS. IN ADDITION TO PROVIDING DIRECT REPRESENTATION AND ADVICE, VOLARE EMPLOYS A CO-COUNSELING MODEL FOR PRO BONO ATTORNEYS INTERESTED IN REPRESENTING CRIME VICTIMS IN CIVIL AND CRIMINAL CASES.

VOLARE SUPPORTS THE ADVOCACY PORTION OF DC'S SEXUAL ASSAULT CRISIS RESPONSE PROGRAM, WHICH INCLUDES PROVIDING FREE TRANSPORTATION TO AND FROM WASHINGTON HOSPITAL CENTER TO ACCESS SEXUAL ASSAULT MEDICAL FORENSIC EXAMINATIONS, CRISIS ADVOCACY, ENTRY INTO THERAPEUTIC SERVICES, AND REFERRALS TO LEGAL SERVICES.
