| IRS990EZ/PrimaryExemptPurpose | 0 | The mission of The Rhema Project is to eliminate female infanticide, sex determination feticide and other discriminations against the girl child (female gendercide) in India by supporting and networking with organizations and indigenous groups. We strive to add value to female lives in India through the short-term rescue of unborn, newborn and the Indian girl child as well as long-term initiatives that include education, health and wellness, trade and micro-finance to help Indian women become truly valued by their culture. |

| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 0 | Bethel AFC Teacher Incentive Program - private matriculation school (k-10) located in Tamil Nadu, India that reaches the poorest of the poor children. Student tuition and other support was not adequate to compensate teachers when compared to government schools. TRP created an incentive fund raising the compensation package of Bethel AFC teachers to 0.78 of pay of government teachers. This program increased quality teacher retention to 0.88 from 0.63. Twenty-six (26) teachers received an increase in their compensation package. Six hundred fifteen (615) students were directed affected by the increase in teacher retention and quality. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 1 | Bethel AFC - Community College Scholarships. Program focuses on offering scholarships to the young women from the nearby villages. Most were not able to continue their formal education after completing 10th or 12th standard (high school) because of economic limitations. Scholarship provided 25% of funding for tuition, books and uniforms. Bethel AFC also provided scholarships at 25%. Upon completion of the one year nursing assistant certificate program 100% of the graduates received job offers doubling and sometimes tripling their annual income. Thirty-five (35) students received a 25% scholarship award. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 2 | Bethel AFC - Matriculation School Annex Construction. The school was in great need of completely renovating an existing structure before the state (Tamil Nadu) would grant occupancy for preschool and kindergarten students. The annex would also allow additional space in its primary building for expanding its class grades to include 11th and 12th standard. One hundred twenty-five (125) additional students were added to the roles because of the construction project. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 3 | Bethel AFC - Director Training Conference. Funded the costs for director to attend an international conference on orphan care and community development in Singapore. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 4 | Bethel AFC - Schooling for the Deaf. Gunaselvi was an orphaned girl living at Bethel AFC's baby home. Born deaf and mute she was not able to attend school with the other children because of her disability and lack of staffing at Bethel AFC to properly educate a deaf student. Bethel AFC identified and TRP funded the tuition, room and board, clothing allowance and travel expenses for Gunaselvi to attend an deaf school in Tamil Nadu, India. Within 6 months Gunaselvi was able to sign, spell her name and write her alphabet and was on par with her new classmates. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 5 | CMCT - Vocational Training Program. This program rescues Indian women from the slums of Chennai and teaches them a marketable skill of tailoring. Prior to enrolling at CMCT most of these women had been forced into prostitution to feed themselves and their children. TRP purchases hand-tailored Indian dolls from CMCT and gifts them to donors at fundraising events. Twenty-five women enrolled in program. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 6 | Aroma Ministries - Prenatal & Newborn Care Initiative. Objective of grassroots program is to reestablish the true value of the girl-baby within her family and culture by providing basic nutritional needs, education and healthcare needs to the expectant and newborn mother. A village advocate (staff) distributes 1/2 liter of milk to every expectant mother in community allowing both nutritional needs to be improved as well as allowing space for a relationship to begin. Village advocate also begins to educate families on the value of all baby children. Each month expectant mothers are taken to clinic or hospital for prenatal checkup and to receive vitamin supplements. Mothers are treated to a meal in a local restaurant before returning to their home village. Once the baby is born, families with female babies are allowed to continue on the milk distribution program and receive an additional 1 liter of milk each day for the next 6 months. TRP also celebrates the birth of the baby girl with small gifts as well as her 6 month and 1 year birthday. 120 families participated in the program and 58 girl babies were born. Within the first 18 months the rate of female infanticide has dropped to near zero (from 45 deaths per year) and 90%+ of the birth families have decided to raise their daughters. Only two (2) cases of sex determination feticide were identified. In the 4thQ 2012 five (5) additional villages that had been identified with an extremely high rate of female gendercide were surveyed and a community census was taken. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 7 | Aroma Ministries - Foster Care Program. For those birth families that are not willing to raise and care for their daughter, Indian families have been identified, trained and then monitored in order to provide quality foster care to these "unwanted" girl-babies. This allows the girl-child to be raised in a nuclear family instead of placed in an orphanage. Foster families receive a stipend of $30 per month for food, clothing and care of the girl-baby. Within 12 to 18 months the majority of foster families refuse the monthly stipend and believe it is their responsibility to raise their foster daughter. Fifteen (15) families participated in this program. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 8 | Aroma Ministries - Agricultural Development. In an attempt to make the Prenatal & Newborn Care Initiative sustainable within a village TRP launched a drip irrigation project in one target village. Land was secured, a bore-well drilled and a farm hand was hired to care for the crops. With an adequate water supply a three (3) crop rotation was realized in the first year. Food from the land was used to supplement the nutritional needs of village school children (80), families participating in the Prenatal & Newborn Care Initiative (120) as well as the village widows (8) that had little family support. Additional land has been secured so that excess food can be sold in the marketplace which will generate revenue to offset expenses for the Prenatal & Newborn Care Initiative. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 9 | Aroma Ministries - Community Awareness. Semiannual gatherings are conducted in each village that is providing the Prenatal & Newborn Care Initiative. Objective is to bring value to the girl-child and identify the negative short and long-term consequences of practicing female gendercide. Approximately 200 families participated in these events. |
| IRS990EZ/ProgramServiceAccomplishment/DescriptionProgramServiceAccom | 10 | Aroma Ministries - After School Tuition Center. Girls attending the local school were encouraged to participate in the after-school program in one (1) village. Thirty-eight (38) girls participated in this program. Girls graduating from the 5th standard (local school) with high marks were encourage to continue their education at a school in the next town (6 miles). Each girl (8) received a new bicycle so that she would have reliable transportation to and from school. |
