Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Fostering media connections is a non-profit news organization that uses a mix of investigative, accountability and solution-oriented journalism to drive reform within the systems that serve vulnerable children, youth and their families.

To make the solutions to americas child welfare problems headline news. We accomplish this through strict-adherence to solution-based journalism. First, we report on and produce solution-based media stories about foster care and vulnerable children. We then market those stories to mainstream and other media outlets in an effort to change the overarching foster care and child welfare narrative towards solutions, not simply problems

DURING THE REPORTING PERIOD 40 STUDENTS TOOK THE JOURNALISM FOR SOCIAL CHANGE COURSE AT EITHER UC BERKELEY OR USC, AND SIX WERE INCLUDED IN A SUMMER FELLOWSHIP.
