During 2014, the Foundation was active in the following projects:Continued to actively work with city of Bulverde on implementation of planning processes such as interconnected wastewater treatment system, visioning process for the Bulverde Village area, promotion of transportation improvements, senior transportation and greater mobility throughout the city and the region.Attended Master Transportation Study, Bulverde Visioning and Lewis Creek Watershed Drainage Analysis public meetings. The Foundation is involved in the organization and participated in the Transportation Forum in October. Continued to facilitate Transportation Reinvestment Zone and related feasibility to include conference calls with City, TxDOT and TTI.Continued research of various programs to assist with funding of infrastructure, business programs and senior/workforce housing. Met with Innovative Finance/Debt Management Division of TxDOT regarding potential transportation funding.Continued Hwy. 46 Corridor Coalition (i.e. Boerne to Seguin inclusive of Canyon Lake) to work towards common regional goals with Hwy. 46 expansion/improvements being recognized as the #1 priority and water resources as the #2 priority. Continued to monitor MPO process by attending public meetings/workshops and formulating relationship with MPO staff and Board Members. MPO will be doing another call for projects in 2016 for FY 2019, 2021 and 2022. Determined that if a project is designed and ready for construction it can be brought forward as long as the funding is awarded. Discussed the need for a public meeting within the Foundations area of operations. MPO is already considering having a meeting at a north central location along US 281 (this will allow for a large portion of our citizens who commute into San Antonio to attend with more convenience.Continued to monitor ARMA and US 281 EIS/Expansion process. Attended Open House where Draft Preferred Alternative Schematic Plans for US 281 from Loop 1604 to Borgfeld Drive in Bexar County was presented. Members of the Foundations staff and Board members, and four area non-profits be attended the 2014 Alamo Area Regional Coordination Annual Workshop at AACOG regarding senior transportation featuring a Volunteer-Assisted Transportation Alternative: How to Start this Service in Your Community! This special transit group has organized successful one-on-one transportation services.Continued involvement in Comal Trinity Stakeholders group. The group has been leading the efforts and has grouped the stakeholders into committees. The Foundation has good representation of Board Members, Members, and Staff on several of those committees.Continued to monitor the Region L Water Planning process/issues by attending quarterly meetings and working with regional partners on potential water projects. Continued monitoring the process for implementing a Business Retention and Expansion (BRE) Program. The BRE Task Force Members held initial workshops, identified several companies the Foundation would like to visit and assigned teams to several target businesses. Staff and Board members also identified several businesses the members felt were critical to visit.Met with the Business Services Liaison for Alamo Workforce Solutions to discuss Employer Incentives and Programs available for incoming and existing businesses and the possibility of holding future job fairs for local businesses in the Foundations area.Attended three Master Transportation Planning work sessions with respect to the City of Bulverdes Transportation Study.Attended City of Bulverdes City Council meetings for Downtown Bulverde Village Vision.Became engaged with the San Antonio Mobility Coalition (SAMCo). Discussed with the City of Bulverde and the Chamber the possibility of coming together to join this organization under the umbrella of the Foundation.Continued to develop effective communications with the public about the importance and focus of managed economic development.Kept abreast of San Antonio Annexation Plan to annex US 281 Corridor to Bulverde ETJ.Continued submitting articles for Front Porch News distributed to over 8,000 residents and businesses in the Greater Bulverde Area including: articles to update citizens on transportation issues (i.e. MPO, US 281 EIS, and Constitutional Amendments regarding Transportation), why its important to Shop Local and educated the public on the importance of sales tax for local taxing jurisdictions to help stabilize property taxes, help fund infrastructure, etc. Emphasized that Comal County is one of 123 counties in Texas that collects sales tax to stabilize property taxes, explained major retail leakage and encouraged residents to Shop Local (Bulverde and Comal County) before going into San Antonio with the goal being to keep sales taxes in our area to stabilize property taxes and help fund much needed infrastructure. Other articles focused on encouraging entrepreneurship and how the Fountain can help connect them to the resources they need to begin their journey (SBDC, SCORE, etc. for mentoring, assistance with business plans, etc.).These articles have yielded contact with five inspiring entrepreneurs and the Foundation connected them with the UTSA Small Business Development Center to assist them with preparation of business plans to secure financing and with a franchise finder who is working with one in particular to help find the perfect franchise in which to invest. Staff continues to follow up with these prospects and routinely checks on their status.Continued working with the Communications Manager for GVTC, on positive media coverage for our area, both proactive and reactive, (i.e. press releases, quotes, interviews, etc.) including involvement with GigaRegion Campaign with GVTC, city of Bulverde and cities of Boerne and Gonzalez.Continued to attend various community events to network and discuss topics of economic development in our area and region.Foundation President was guest speaker in December 2014 for the men over 65 group at the BSB Library also known as the Gathering of Silver Kings group where she gave them a community update on the happenings in the area (i.e. population projections, new developments coming, AAMPO, transportation study, Hwy. 46, US 281, GCD efforts, Home Rule efforts, etc.). The outcome was very positive and the group was very complementary of the presentation. As a result, the Executive Director was asked to speak on the same topic at the Friends of the Library Annual Meeting in January, 2015.Moved forward with investigation to sponsor Public Forums with City, Chamber and other entities regarding various issues of community interest such water, transportation, economic development and incentives, etc. Transportation Work Sessions, Charettees and MPO/TXDOT public meetings confirmed that more public education on this topic and various other topics of great interest is definitely needed. Board discussed possibility of sponsoring Public Forums with City and Chamber regarding various issues of community interest such water, transportation, economic development and incentives, etc.Actively worked to recruit new members for the Foundation. Several have joined and several potential entities are considering membership. Board Retreat produced discussion for need to recruit Membership Chairman and add a Small Business Class in an effort to enhance membership. Board also discussed having a joint mixer with the Chamber in an effort to recruit some of those smaller businesses. A major area bank had already solidified sponsorship of event, but agreed to cosponsor mixer with the Foundation.Actively worked with the Chamber as an Ex Officio Voting Board Member and member of the Governmental Affairs Council to discuss issues of concern with governmental processes, attend governmental meetings to show support for projects, etc.Staff and Board Members attended the 2015 Annual Chamber Awards Banquet where one of the Foundations Board members received the 2014 Business of the Year Award.Staff attended Chamber Leads Group meetings to learn of new businesses coming to area and share information as able and appropriate.Began Targeted Business Attraction ProgramEstablished a marketing program which articulates the Bulverde/Spring Branch advantage for business.Continued to actively recruit community college, vocational tech, and skills training.Continued working with community leaders in recruiting medical and health care businesses.
