| Empathy FX International is committed to breaking the cycle of poverty by increasing access to quality education in Ghana. Over the past 14 years, the organization has made remarkable strides in providing educational opportunities for children in Ghana's Central Region, serving over 1,000 students who previously had no access to primary education. Founded in 2009 by Nana Aggrey Fynn and Rosemary (Hua) DeAragon, Empathy FX International began with a single project to build a school in a Ghanaian village. Since then, the organization has grown into a highly acclaimed non-profit, constructing five schools and a technology center. Empathy FX has also conducted seven volunteer travel programs, where participants from North America and the UK engaged in various activities, including teaching, construction, medical work, and cultural exchange. Under the leadership of Executive Director Rosemary DeAragon, who has visited Ghana eight times for Empathy FX projects, the organization has achieved significant milestones. Rosemary has overseen the construction and management of five schools, directly impacting the education of over 1,000 students. Her leadership earned the organization recognition from the Executive Branch of President Barack Obama for Exceptional Service Abroad, and in 2021, Forbes Magazine named her among the Forbes 30 Under 30 for her impactful work. Nana Aggrey Fynn, serving as the full-time Director of Empathy FX International, has been instrumental in the organization's success in Ghana. His 19 years of experience in facilitating service projects between US partners and Ghanaian communities have positioned Empathy FX as the premier non-profit organization in Ghana's Central Region, as recognized by the Paramount House of Chiefs from 2016 through 2019. In 2023, Empathy FX returned to Old Odonasi, a village in the Central Region, to establish a library and technology center, along with running a medical clinic. This project provided over 1,400 students, including 750 female students, with access to textbooks, computers, and medical care. Empathy FX distributed three pallets of books, laptops, and devices and trained teachers from more than 17 schools in the surrounding area. The organization's dedication to sustainability and community involvement is evident in its approach to construction. Empathy FX hires local labor to ensure that the construction of schools and facilities is both sustainable and of high quality. This approach not only provides employment opportunities within the communities they serve but also ensures that the facilities meet local needs and standards. In 2024, Empathy FX has built two additional classrooms in Old Odonasi. These classrooms will serve 60 students in Primary 6 and Junior High School, providing them with a stable learning environment protected from the elements and other outdoor distractions. The construction of these classrooms is was completed includes the necessary infrastructure, such as desks and roofing, to ensure a conducive learning environment. Empathy FX is also addressing the issue of period poverty, which significantly affects the education of girls in Ghana. The organization has also provided sanitary pads and 200 school uniforms to ensure that female students do not miss school due to their periods. By providing these essential items, Empathy FX aims to reduce the number of days girls miss school and prevent them from falling behind in their studies. The impact of Empathy FX's work is perhaps best exemplified by the story of Benedicta, a 12-year-old student at an Empathy FX school in Old Odonasi. Benedicta, who dreams of becoming a lawyer or a woman in technology, has had the opportunity to receive an education thanks to the schools built by Empathy FX. Her story is a testament to the organization's mission to empower children through education and create a brighter future for the communities they serve. As Empathy FX International continues its work in Ghana, the organization remains committed to its mission of providing access to quality education and breaking the cycle of poverty for children and their communities. | $0 | $62,374 |
