DescriptionGrantsExpenses
We are in progress on the Metro Atlanta Air Pollution Project, which we are completing in collaboration with the Georgia Institute of Technology. So far, we have installed 12 PM2.5 Air Sensors in 6 high schools around Atlanta. The 6 schools are South Atlanta High School, Benjamin E. Mays High School, Carver High School, Maynard Jackson High School, Frederick Douglass High School, and Daniel McLaughlin Therrell High School. We are currently in the process of analyzing the air sensor data with Georgia Tech, as well as developing GIS/AI education support programming for South Atlanta community members around air quality safety. This project serves about 25,000 people, which includes the high school populations and the surrounding communities.$500,000$90,000
We are completing the Community Coastal Resilience Project in collaboration with Nasa Langely Research Center, Virginia Institute of Marine Sciences, Old Dominion University, and six municipalities across the Hampton Roads Region. For the project, the team is modeling and analyzing data for coastal flooding and storm surge impact on sea-level rise. Our role is to engage community members on sea-level rise and coastal flooding impacts. This project serves six cities, for a combined population of approximately 3.2 million.$107,000$6,500
For the Hampton Roads Extreme Heat Project, we collected and analyzed extreme heat data around Portsmouth, Virginia, in collaboration with Virginia Wesleyan University, community members, and local government officials. Specifically, we identified communities impacted by urban heat islands. The data, which was combined with existing demographic and economic data on the city, is currently being used to develop strategies to mitigate urban heat islands and enhance tree canopies. This project serves the Portsmouth population, which is around 100,000 people.$55,000$12,000
