“At risk youth mentoring: this program is our primary program. In mid-2014, the program began as a full-time operation and served 20 at risk youth. At risk high school students are identified and referred by their schools. The students earn credits while working a traditional taro farm. They are mentored in life skills, work ethic, and job skills. At the end of 2014, two youth were promoted to the second phase, which is a paid internship in the program.”

“Outdoor learning center:schools and community organizations are able to bring students on field trips to see a traditional taro farm. They are taught hawaiian culture,science, natural resource management and sustainability. This program serves small groups as requested. In 2014, more than 50 persons participated.”

“Kalo (poi) sales:interns from the mentoring program are taught farming, preparation of taro for consumption, marketing, business concepts, financial literacy and customer service. In 2014, two at risk youth started working in this program.”
