Supplemental Narrative

Additional Explanations

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4A

Brazil huni kuin in order to reduce the number of deaths in children under the age of 5 due to a lack of access to clean water, ebl supported a project to install solar-powered water pumps in five huni kuin communities in the brazilian amazon who had been relying on river water contaminated by heavy metals from mining operations, medical waste from neighboring cities, pesticides runoff from the agriculture, fuels from boat traffic and water-borne parasites and bacteria. Ashaninka ebl began a project to install large solar microgrids for two indigenous communities in the brazilian amazon to help alleviate poverty and provide energy access for over 800 people who have been enduring deforestation, invasion and illegal occupation of public lands and the violation of human rights.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4B

Usa hard rock chapter house ebl partnered with one of the nation's largest residential solar companies to install solar and energy storage on the hard rock chapter house on the navajo reservation in arizona. This particular chapter has been disproportionately affected by the long-running dispute between the hopi and navajo tribes and the coal mining industry over land and resource rights, and is one of the navajo communities with the highest number of homes without access to electricity. Solar trailers for fire ebl had two solar-powered trailers built for fire departments in northern california. These highly portable units allow firefighters to power communications equipment during active fires, volunteer fire stations who have lost power from the electrical grid and any number of activities and events where portable power is needed-all without having to rely on diesel. Ebl also helped fund and participate in a portable solar generator build with several volunteer fire departments.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4C

Africa kenya empowered by light (ebl) installed solar and energy storage to power the lights, fans and music and recording equipment of hope studio for the kakuma refugee camp in northwestern kenya, which is the permanent home of approximately 200,000 refugees. The studio enables refugee youth to learn permaculture to grow their own food, and make and share their music, their experiences and their culture with the rest of the world. Zambia ebl provided solar-powered water pumping, storage and irrigation systems for three communities in the luangwa district of zambia. All three communities previously had no access to electricity which profoundly limits people's quality of life. Community members had to collect and haul water in buckets from the river to irrigate their crops and for drinking, cooking and sanitation, which greatly restricted their ability to successfully grow vegetables and a wide variety of crops and increased the likelihood of dangerous--sometimes deadly, interactions with elephants, crocodiles and hippos.

Form 990, Page 2, Part III, Line 4D

In puerto rico, ebl continued its program to boost resiliency by helping fund the installation of new solar technologies on farming cooperatives and community resiliency centers.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0USA HARD ROCK CHAPTER HOUSE EBL PARTNERED WITH ONE OF THE NATION'S LARGEST RESIDENTIAL SOLAR COMPANIES TO INSTALL SOLAR AND ENERGY STORAGE ON THE HARD ROCK CHAPTER HOUSE ON THE NAVAJO RESERVATION IN ARIZONA.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0AFRICA KENYA EMPOWERED BY LIGHT (EBL) INSTALLED SOLAR AND ENERGY STORAGE TO POWER THE LIGHTS, FANS AND MUSIC AND RECORDING EQUIPMENT OF HOPE STUDIO FOR THE KAKUMA REFUGEE CAMP IN NORTHWESTERN KENYA, WHICH IS THE PERMANENT HOME OF APPROXIMATELY 200,000 REFUGEES.
