During 2016, Children First continued its educational outreach activities for children of East Bakersfield. With an emphasis on Williams Elementary School, Children First organized field trips to Wind Wolves Preserve, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Getty Museum. During the summer, Children First organized its annual summer internship program, where over a dozen high school and college students worked on enrichment and extended education projects for children. On the third Saturday of every month, Children First joined the City of Bakersifeld's Keep Bakersfield Beautiful committee for a cleanup day in East Bakersfield. In addition, Children First hosting a Thanksgiving Outreach, where we fed over 1,000 families. In the winter, we organized our "Tech the Halls" 2.0, providing refurbished computers to under-served children in East Bakersfield.

Mission and Program Overview

Mission

During 2016, Children First continued its educational outreach activities for children of East Bakersfield. Children first successfully operated the david nelson pocket park, a neighborhood park for children of east bakersfield. Children first also completed its summer internship program, bringing together high school and college students to work directly with elementary school students in summer enrichment programs. In addition, children first distributed backpacks and shoes to underserved children; provided free meals to children and families. Childrens first also expanded its literacy program with the partnership of the bakersfield city school district.
