Profile
Griot arts works towards its mission through three programs: mint, sage, and meraki. Mint and sage comprise our afterschool arts program and serve students in grades three through twelve. Mint works with 3rd through 6th grade while sage serves students in 7th through 12th grade. These programs offer a variety of visual and performing arts classes, such as dance, piano, guitar, rock band and fine arts. We compliment these art classes with academic mentorship and bible study each week in addition to guest speakers and educational trips. Our third program, meraki, began in 2017 and is a coffee roasting company and a job training program for opportunity youth in clarksdale. Meraki is a greek word meaning to put soul, creativity, and part of yourself into your work. At meraki, students are taught what it means to work with theses meraki ideals and that a job is not only a way to provide for yourself, but also an avenue to use your creative talents to contribute to your community.
