“Seed saving is an essential piece of this knowledge, and in order to build a resilient food system in these ever-changing times we have to return to this indigenous wisdom. In 2024 our program accomplishments included: - continued to strengthen our local team capacity welcoming 3 new team members to the philippines including: a new luzon area manager, and two expansion roles in our visayas area coordinator and benguet seed sanctuary coordinator. We are a complete team of 8 philippine nationals and 2 us team members. - conducted 10 seed sovereignty forums (ssf) across the philippines with 487 total participants. Ssfs raise awareness about the critical importance of seed sovereignty and are a pipeline to our core seed school curriculum. - conducted 25 seed school 1 and seed school 2 training programs, training 621 farmers in seed saving across 12 communities in the philippines. - distributed 70 seed library kit boxes to farmer partners equipping them with all necessary to begin their on farm seed saving journey. - opened our second seed sanctuary in tublay, benguet. 1,300 sq meters of land dedicated to producing a wide diversity of open-pollinated seeds and serving as an education and training center for seed saving. - our 2 filipina-american post graduate fellows from princeton university completed the production of their documentary film hasik: to sow, which shares the stories of our partners in building seed sovereignty across the philippines. We will be hosting strategic screenings of the film across the us this year. - conducted roundtable discussion: policy and program options for seed sovereignty and seed saving in benguet and baguio city with 34 representatives from the provincial and local government, farmers, ngo leaders and other interested parties. This forum will inform local and regional heirloom and open-pollinated seed policy formations in the coming year. - received our largest grant in our history 50,000 from the conservation food and health foundation to grow our seed saver communities and expand seed production at our two seed sanctuaries.”
