Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 2

Stephanie and robert andzik have a family relationship.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 8B

There are no committees with authority to act on behalf of the governing body.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

The form 990 is prepared by the organization's independent accounting firm with information provided by management. Once the return is prepared, a copy of the document is reviewed and approved by the president, officers, and board of directors prior to filing.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Directors and officers are asked to disclose all conflicts of interest on a yearly basis relating to themselves, or a related party. It is at the discretion of the other board members to determine if a conflict of interest is valid. If a conflict of interest is determined, the involved parties are not allowed to vote on decisions related to that conflict of interest. Any discussion related to a potential conflict of interest is documented in the board minutes.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The independent members of the board of directors review and approve salaries during the annual budget process. Additionally, an independent review of compensation for the new top management official was done during the hiring process in 2022. Records are kept in electronic format to substantiate the deliberations and decisions. The president and medical director compared compensation data for key employees in both kenya and ethiopia to ensure that salaries reflect regional standards. The process described here was last completed in 2024.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

Separate financial statements are prepared by cla. Financial information may be found on the completed 990, which is available through guidestar. The form 990 is also available upon request. Governing documents and conflict of interest policies are available upon request.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0AT-RISK CHILDREN AND VULNERABLE POPULATIONSLALMBA ASSOCIATION PROVIDES A VITAL SAFETY NET FOR OVER 1,290 CHILDREN AND ELDERS WHO HAVE LOST TRADITIONAL FAMILY SUPPORT SYSTEMS, PRIMARILY DUE TO THE LONG-TERM IMPACT OF THE HIV/AIDS EPIDEMIC. THE ORGANIZATION OPERATES A DUAL-MODEL OF CARE: FULL-TIME RESIDENTIAL SUPPORT AT TWO CHILDREN'S HOMES (THE ONGORO CHILDREN'S HOME IN KENYA AND THE CHIRI CHILDREN'S HOME IN ETHIOPIA) AND THE REACHING CHILDREN AT RISK (RCAR) COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAM. THE RCAR MODEL ALLOWS ORPHANED AND VULNERABLE CHILDREN TO REMAIN IN THEIR HOME COMMUNITIES WITH GUARDIANS, OFTEN A SINGLE MOTHER, WHILE RECEIVING THE RESOURCES NECESSARY TO THRIVE AND GO TO SCHOOL.IN THE REGIONS WHERE LALMBA WORKS, THERE IS NO FORMAL SOCIAL SECURITY OR RETIREMENT INFRASTRUCTURE, LEAVING DISABLED AND ELDERLY INDIVIDUALS WITH NOWHERE TO TURN. TO HELP EASE THIS STRUGGLE, LALMBA PROVIDES FOOD AND BASIC CARE FOR DESTITUTE ELDERS TO PROVIDE COMFORT AND DIGNITY. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION ASSISTS DISABLED INDIVIDUALS THROUGH RELIEF PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE ESSENTIAL ITEMS SUCH AS FOOD AND MATTRESSES. THESE EFFORTS AIM TO STABILIZE THE FAMILY UNIT AND ENSURE THAT EXTREME POVERTY DOES NOT PREVENT CHILDREN FROM PURSUING AN EDUCATION.FISCAL YEAR RESULTS: - RCAR: THE PROGRAM SUPPORTED 1,238 CHILDREN WITH SCHOOL FEES, UNIFORMS, AND SUPPLIES. TO ENSURE LONG-TERM IMPACT, SCHOOL ATTENDANCE IS MAINTAINED AS A STRICT REQUIREMENT FOR PROGRAM PARTICIPATION. - CHILDREN'S HOMES: 47 CHILDREN RECEIVED 24-HOUR CARE, NUTRITION, AND HOUSING AT THE ORGANIZATION'S TWO CHILDREN'S HOMES. - ELDERLY & RELIEF ASSISTANCE: 60 ELDERS AND 30 DISABLED COMMUNITY MEMBERS RECEIVED NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT, MEDICAL CARE, AND ESSENTIAL HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO ALLEVIATE HUNGER AND NEGLECT.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0EMPOWERMENTLALMBA ASSOCIATION IMPLEMENTS ECONOMIC SUSTAINABILITY AND LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES DESIGNED TO TRANSITION FAMILIES FROM DEPENDENCY TO SELF-SUFFICIENCY. A CORE COMPONENT OF THIS PILLAR IS THE OPERATION OF MICRO-FINANCE PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE SMALL BUSINESS STARTUP LOANS TO HEADS-OF-HOUSEHOLD, PRIMARILY SINGLE MOTHERS. A NOMINAL 1% ADMINISTRATIVE FEE AND A 12 MONTH REPAYMENT SCHEDULE IS APPLIED TO THESE LOANS TO HELP OFFSET THE LOCAL COSTS OF PROGRAM MANAGEMENT AND TO ENCOURAGE DISCIPLINED BUSINESS PRACTICES AMONG PARTICIPANTS. TO ENSURE THE SUCCESS OF THESE ENTREPRENEURS, LALMBA PARTNERS WITH SUCCESSFUL LOCAL BUSINESS VOLUNTEERS AND TEACHERS WHO PROVIDE MENTORSHIP IN SMART BUSINESS PRACTICES AND FINANCIAL PLANNING.ADDITIONALLY, LALMBA INVESTS IN "CAPACITY BUILDING" FOR ITS WORKFORCE OF OVER 100 LOCAL STAFF MEMBERS. BY PROVIDING LEADERSHIP TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, THE ORGANIZATION ENSURES THAT ITS CLINICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE OPERATIONS ARE LED BY EMPOWERED, HIGH-SKILLED LOCAL PROFESSIONALS WHO ARE EQUIPPED TO MANAGE THE ORGANIZATION'S LONG-TERM FUTURE.FISCAL YEAR RESULTS:MICRO-FINANCE: THE PROGRAM PROVIDED 40 MICROLOANS, ENABLING THE RECEIPIENTS, PRIMARILY DESTITUTE SINGLE MOTHERS, TO LAUNCH OR EXPAND SMALL BUSINESSES TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILIES.COMMUNITY RESOURCES: LALMBA MAINTAINS A SMALL COMMUNITY LIBRARY THAT SUPPORTED OVER 20,000 VISITS FOR LEARNING AND TO AUGMENT THEIR FORMAL EDUCATION.STAFF DEVELOPMENT: THE ORGANIZATION CONDUCTED LEADERSHIP WORKSHOPS AND MULTI-CULTURAL TRAINING SESSIONS FOR THE LEADERSHIP TEAMS IN KENYA AND ETHIOPIA, FOCUSING ON STRATEGIC PLANNING, MONITORING, AND EVALUATION.
