The Foundation works to accomplish its mission by engaging in fundraising activities and receiving donations and grants. The Foundation offers teacher mini-grants, college scholarships, and helps to support district recognition programs, services of the preschool program at Sopori Elementary School, a childcare program known as Learning Involves Nurturing Kids or LINK, and the Amado-Sahuarita Adult Learning Program (ASALP). It also seeks to expand resources for educational programs associated with science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and for other educational needs that are not covered by the Districts regular budget. 1) The Amado-Sahuarita Adult Learning Program (ASALP) provides four levels of English as a Second Language (ESL) classes and Pre-GED classes to the underserved adult population of southern Pima County. Pre-GED classes are directed at students who need more time to prepare for the GED test. The revised class format has increased ASALPs success in retaining students and ensuring their readiness for the GED exam. During the 2015-2016 fiscal year, ASALP served approximately 200 students. 2) The Learning Involves Nurturing of Kids (LINK)Program has the mission of providing quality childcare at an affordable price. LINK offers before and after school care, an all-day program for 4 year olds, and a summer program. Its staff strives to create a safe, welcoming, environment conducive to positive learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom. During the 2015-2016 fiscal year, approximately 250 area students were served by LINK. 3) The Sahuarita Educational Enrichment Foundation serves a school district in which approximately one of every four school-age children (K-12) come from families having incomes below the poverty level. The Foundation therefore engages Board members and friends of the Foundation in the review of applications from senior high school students who are academically-qualified and planning to pursue post-secondary education following graduation. Economic need is one of the criteria given consideration during the selection process. During fiscal year, 2015-2016, the Foundation sent either $500 or $1000 checks totaling $12,000 to the schools of 16 awardees. Letters accompanying the checks indicated that the funds were to be applied to tuition and mandatory fees. Recently, the Foundation was selected by the executor of a trust established by a now-deceased couple that specified distribution of funds to help needy students who would otherwise lack the opportunity to attend college or other post-secondary educational program. The Foundation will thus expand its scholarship program to include coverage of an awardees tuition for up to 4 full years. Additionally, the Foundation will continue to foster donations to enable continuation of scholarship awards to offset some educational expenses during an awardees first year.

IRS990ScheduleO/SupplementalInformationDetail/ExplanationTxt4The Foundation works to accomplish its mission by engaging in fundraising activities and receiving donations and grants.
