The Show-Me Curriculum Administrators Association (SMCAA) will provide support to member school districts for the development, implementation, and evaluation of local curriculum which is aligned to the Missouri Show-Me Standards, Grade Level Expectations, and that results in enhanced student achievement.(unchanged since initial-1998)

| SMCAA provided two statewide curriculum conferences attended by 241 teachers, curriculum leaders and administrators in 2014-2015. The focus for the year was on Doing the Right Thingsno matter what! The theme of the Fall Conference, October 6-7, was Reaching New Heights! Nationally acclaimed author and presenter, Rick Wormeli was the keynote speaker. Participants were offered 10 different breakout sessions related to the theme on the first day and an all-day interactive workshop with Rick Wormeli on the second day. Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) personnel presented sessions on updates on where we stand regarding the standards and assessments, 173 participants were in attendance. The summer conference theme was How What If The Score Took Care of Itself with 68 participants in attendance. Ten sessions were presented by school district personnel and curriculum leaders. Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) personnel spoke with attendees regarding Changing issues in Assessment and If we do the right things for students, then students will do well. Activity objective: To provide a platform through state-wide conferences to address curriculum development, including instructional practices and assessments, designed to more actively engage students in the learning process - as a means to improve student achievement through enduring understandings. | $76,015 | - |

| SMCAA conducted over 16 days of travel curriculum workshops with the objective of helping public school teachers understand the elements of effective curriculum and develop curriculum in subject specific areas aligned to the State Standards, with attention to learning targets, assessment, learning activities and instructional practices at the highest Depth of Knowledge (DOK) levels possible. SMCAA consultants traveled to districts to work with vertical teams of teachers who served as K-12 representatives for their respective grade levels. Generally, three-day workshops were conducted to guide teachers in the development of aligned, scope and sequenced curriculum. In addition, sessions of training for curriculum leaders were presented with the objective of helping school administrators be aware of: the elements of effective curriculum, Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP) requirements, and that scope and sequenced curriculum is essential to guide instruction for heightened student achievement. In addition, training sessions were presented on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The sessions were held around the state, with 64 teachers in attendance. | SMCAA also conducted webinar trainings on the use of an electronic curriculum management system known as Build Your Own Curriculum (B.Y.O.C.) that is designed to follow the Understanding by Design format of curriculum develop embraced by SMCAA. Teachers determine learning targets that address state/national standards, organize them into units, identify the topics to be addressed in each unit and develop aligned assessments, learning activities, and instructional methods to assist students in the mastery of the learning targets. The tool runs reports to assist districts in the assessment of how well their written curriculum is addressing student learning. The aim is that teachers actually use and adjust their written curriculum to guide effective instruction for student learning. Approximately 110 school districts participated in the webinars.
