Mission

Catholic charities foundation supports catholic charities of st. Louis, its federated agencies and other not-for-profit social services entities in furtherance of their programs and helps them carry out their mission and pursue their tax-exempt purpose. Also, catholic charities foundation supports other non-profit entities in the social service area to further their programs and carry out their individual mission statements.

Catholic charities foundation supports catholic charities of st. Louis, its federated agencies and other not-for-profit social service entities to further their programs and help them carry out their mission and pursue their tax-exempt purpose. Catholic charities foundation is also the sole member of language access multicultural people, llc (lamp) which is disregarded for tax purposes. Lamp provides language interpretation and translation services and multicultural training.

The organization has one member - catholic charities of st. Louis (ccstl). Ccstl has only one member, the archbishop of st. Louis, who retains certain reserved powers directly over ccstl and indirectly over catholic charities foundation.

Through his reserved powers established in the bylaws of catholic charities of st louis and catholic charities foundation, the archbishop of st. Louis has the authority to appoint up to 50% of the board of directors and to approve all candidates of the board of directors of catholic charities foundation.

The bylaws of catholic charities foundation reserve certain decision-making powers to catholic charities of st louis and the archbishop of st. Louis. Additionally, the audit committee of the archdiocese of st. Louis is responsible for the selection of the independent auditor for all archdiocesan entities, including the organization.

Income taxes the individual agencies that comprise the archdiocese are listed in the official catholic directory and therefore are tax-exempt public charities under section 501(c)(3) and section 509(a) of the internal revenue code, except for holy infant & st. Joseph associates, lp, rosati apartments, lp and st. John neumann associates, lp. Holy infant & st. Joseph associates, lp, rosati apartments, lp and st. John neumann associates, lp that are partnerships established as pass-through entities for tax purposes. As such, the archdiocese can only be taxed on income from any activities unrelated to their charitable purpose. At june 30, 2019 and 2018, the archdiocese had not identified any such revenue; therefore, no tax expense has been recorded. The archdiocese does not have any uncertain tax positions.
