Mission and Program Overview

Mission

Transforming lives through musical excellence. The goal of the st. Louis children's choirs is to empower the youth of st. Louis through a rich choral program that helps each young singer realize their full potential - as a musician and as a person. A skilled team of directors and accompanists provide our ensemble members with musical training and character growth through quality choral literature and world-class performance opportunities. Young singers, ages 6-18, rehearse weekly, learning choral singing, performing, music reading, artistry and expression - all while developing key character and achievement skills. Participation in the choirs develops life skills such as teamwork, leadership, self-discipline, commitment, empathy, and respect for diversity. Students cultivate shared values such as character, excellence, belonging, community, and integrity.

The choirs seek to have an "open door policy- and encourages board members and employees to share their questions, concerns, suggestions or complaints regarding the choirs and its operations with someone who can address them properly.

The board of directors, executive director, finance committee, artistic director, accountant review the form 990 (provided via email prior to formal review) before its filing with the irs. The finance committee and board of directors provide feedback to the accountant as to any known inaccuracies or questions. The formal review will be documented by board meeting minutes and approved by the president and the treasurer.

It is our intention to use a compensation system that determines the current not-for-profit market value of a position based on the skills, knowledge, and behaviors required of a fully competent employee. The system used will be objective and non- discriminatory in theory, application and practice. The choirs has determined that this can best be accomplished by using a system recommended by the executive director and artistic director and, if deemed necessary, a professional consultant, and approved by the board president. The executive director, artistic director and hr committee of the board of directors shall ensure that external salary comparisons are updated periodically, and that pay adjustments are administered in a fair and equitable manner. The executive director, artistic director, and the board of directors are charged with the responsibility of ensuring that the total compensation program is managed for consistency and equity, and within the approved budget.

Louis and around the world. Community engagement and inclusion activities include public concerts, needs-based scholarships, professional development for music educators in under-resourced schools, and interactive choral performances in underserved communities. The st. Louis children's choirs typically serves over 350 singers (ages 6 to 18), from more than 125 schools and 75 zip codes in missouri and illinois. During 2024-2025, enrollment increased to 380 students who performed 28 concerts and presentations that reached over 25,000 audience members from around the world.
