The travelers protective association of america is a not-for-profit fraternal benefit society with 11,444 members at the close of business on december 31, 2024.

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 7A

The governing body consists of delegates to the annual meeting, representing the members of the association. The delegates elect a president, vice-president, and eight directors who conduct the affairs of the association between annual conventions. The officers and directors present reports at the annual convention discussing the previous years operations. Delegates accept the reports as presented and are free to question any aspect of the annual reports presented.

The accounting method used to prepare the form 990 was the regulatory basis of accounting.

The association has a national board of directors that is responsible for the oversight of the audit and for selection of external auditors.

Financial Statement Notes

PART IV, LINE 2B:

Funds of $ 118,662 are held in escrow as liabilities due to dissolution of a division or revocation of its charter, and the assets of said divisions shall be disbursed as directed by the national board of directors.

PART X, LINE 2:

The association is exempt from federal income tax under the provisions of section 501(c)(8) of the internal revenue code and is not considered a private foundation. The association has recognized in the financial statements the effects of all tax positions and continually evaluates expiring statutes of limitations, audits, changes in tax law, and a new authoritative rulings. The association is not aware of any circumstances or events that make it reasonably possible that unrecognized tax benefits may increase or decrease within 12 months of the balance sheet date. Penalties and interest assessed by taxing authorities are included in general expenses, if applicable. There were no interest or penalties paid during fiscal year 2024 and 2023. The association files federal form 990 annually in the federal jurisdiction.
