Our green schools program has saved cumberland county schools over three million dollars by providing facility education, waste audits,and training faculty and students to conserve.2. Our green business program has certified 100+ green businesses and municipal entities in the sandhills region teaching employees and management how to save money and resources, become more efficient and contribute to the communitys well-being through sustainable actions at work.3. Climate adaptation plan for cumberland county was developed and regional education on hazard mitigation and the impacts of climate change on our region is being provided by sustainable sandhills. 4. Sustainable film series provides public education on important regional and national issues, from local food to drinking water and light source pollution.5. Electronic waste drives in may and november provide for safe disposal of household hazardous waste with cumberland county officials.6. Between 2000 and 2010 our population grew by 15.8%. Our population is expected to increase from 9.5 to 12.4 million by 2030. Our green growth program works to conserve priority wildlife habitat and protect important ecosystem services while homes, businesses, and roads are developed.7. Cape fear river protection and advocacy on sageguards for clean drinking water including low impact development standards, reduced use of pollutants, and public education on potential hazards to river health.”
