The member of the corporation consists of those persons (as an institutional body) who are from time to time members of the General Council of a religious congregation of Roman Catholic sisters known as the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, San Antonio, Texas a non-profit Texas Corporation. This sole corporate member shall approve or disapprove any: amendment or restatement of the Articles of Incorporation or By-Laws of the corporation; change in direction from the policies on mission or philosophy of the corporation; merger, dissolution, or consolidation of the corporation; mortgage, sale, exchange or pledge of corporate property or assets; acquistion of real property; creation of a new corporation(s) or subsidiary; appointment or removal of the Director or a board trustee of the Corporation; annual capital and operational budgets.Three members of the board are members of the Congregation of Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word, a religous Roman Catholic order of Sisters which is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt charitable organization (EIN# 74-2790137).

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy2Grp/Desc0Women's Empowerment Program:Local Programs: Strengthened presence and nurtured partnerships at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) and in the Greater San Antonio community with a total of 61 presentations and events providing almost 1,400 people with opportunities to learn about WGCs mission and programs. Event displays and interactions at the University of the Incarnate Word included the Red Dress Health Fair, Peace Month, International Fair and Bazaar, Internship Fair, the Festival of Colors, and Womens History Month. Some of the community presentations and partnerships included St.Lukes Episcopal School, Universal City United Methodist Church, San Antonio Council for International Visitors, St. Anthony Catholic School, and the University Presbyterian Church. Continued partnership with a local high school to develop understanding of another culture and complete student fundraising for a rainwater harvester for the Bukoba Womens Empowerment Association (BUWEA) in Bukoba, Tanzania.Held 4th Annual Girls Global Summit as part of the Future Leadership San Antonio program with 200 attendees from 20 area middle schools and high schools, UIW, and the community. This program specifically promotes leadership education for girls and global citizenship. Six high school interns and one UIW intern provided yearlong peer mentoring for the student girl groups who made presentations at the Summit. Social media reached 3,521 people during the event.A total of 7 university interns and graduate students worked in the WGC office on communications, research, and other projects.Staff and volunteers presented research and led discussions at the Southwest Fulbright Association meeting. The Duff Nutrition Trip Fund supported 4 immersion trip volunteers to Peru completing a Nutrition practicum and 1 volunteer to Tanzania. The Ettling Hayes Scholarship supported 1 volunteer traveling to Tanzania and 1 traveling to Peru with WGC.Provided $7,200 in emergency micro-loans ($200-$500 each) to 15 employees of the Village at the Incarnate Word. Planned and executed 5 immersion trips with 17 volunteers traveling to Peru and 7 to Tanzania and Kenya. Global Programs: BUWEA in Tanzania built 7 additional rain harvesters to total 35 by year end with funding from WGC contributors. The 35 rain harvesters are providing clean water for 4,300 villagers. They provided WASH (water access and sanitation hygiene) training to villagers and others.Pushaq Warmi - Peru continued to produce and air a weekly radio program, reaching people in Chimbote and surrounding rural areas on topics related to womens and childrens rights, community and family health, and womens leadership. Pushaq Warmi members conducted workshops for women in and near Chimbote, Peru about self-esteem, family violence, health issues, and other topics. They also met with the women in each location to share ideas for collaboration. The Pushaq Warmi women continued to share information and resources at special events and in social justice groups. In the years immersion trips to Peru, Tanzania and Kenya, the total of 24 volunteers provided 121 educational workshops and trainings for 2,178 in-country participants.Fundraising: Annual Gala fundraiser in honor of WGCs 15th year had 370 attendees and $36,000 in net proceeds.WGC raised $10,000 for earthquake relief efforts in Bukoba, Tanzania.Generated Global Strategic Partner donations and community involvement in WGC through friend raising gatherings and personal contacts.Participated in the third San Antonio Big Give online giving program, raising over $3,000 in one day.Donated Services (In-Kind) received for 2016 amounted to $112,220

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0Womens Economic Development:GlobalWGC supporters provided funding for 5 new global business partners in the Pushaq Warmi womens program in Chimbote, Peru.Pushaq Warmi, through its Artesanias and Manualidades business collective produced artisan products and earned close to $2,000 in revenues with ongoing consultation and capacity building provided by WGC.One of the new Incarnate Word Missionaries began service as WGC in-field staff working with Pushaq Warmi.WGC volunteers provided Hekima Secondary School students in Bukoba, Tanzania and a new womens group of Hekima students mothers and other family members with entrepreneurship and business start-up training and consultation.WGC continued to provide consultation on soy production and marketing to BUWEA, especially related to long distance marketing and bringing the soy patty product to market. BUWEA increased production and sales of soy products and expanded use of its farm to produce and sell vegetables.BUWEA continued to provide milling plant services to process maize, beans, potatoes and soy in the village of Kabale, further economically impacting the village and saving women money on these services. Financial support from a former Incarnate Word Missionary to BUWEA helped the women repair and upgrade their equipment. WGC helped foster the growth of Bukoba Womens Empowerment Association (BUWEA) to 788 members with access to microloans, with an additional 350 members in a satellite group in another region.WGC provided capacity building and helped launch the Women in Conservation microloan fund for 10 womens groups with a total of over 200 members in Kakamega County, Kenya. WGC provided, through its supporters, business grants for BUWEA individual Global Business Partners, animal grants for women business owners, and funding for the 7 additional rain harvesters.
