Mission

Blessman international, inc., exists to help meet the physical, educational, emotional, and spiritual needs of the people of southern africa with special attention to children, by providing nutritional support, housing, skills training, pastoral training, and supportive projects for the community.

Blessman international, inc., their donors and volunteers bring to south african children and their families god's love and eternal hope through faith formation and locally sustainable programs that feed hungry people, foster food-secure communities, offer dignity through provision of basic water and sanitation, and provide opportunities for child development and learning.

Jim blessman, board chairman and ceo, is married to beth blessman, board director. Dustin blessman, son of jim and beth blessman, is employed by the organization and serves as the president of the board of trustees of blessman international south africa.

The form 990 is prepared by an independent accounting firm based on the financial statements and information provided by the finance department of the organization. Copies of the final form 990 are emailed to each board member prior to the filing deadline. Board members are asked to review the return individually and to contact the preparer, other board members, and/or executive officers with any questions or concerns. Any necessary edits are made and a final form presented to the full board of directors for its approval and authorization to complete the filing.

Annually, each decision maker (e.g. Directors, officers, and other employees who can influence the actions of the organization or its board, or make commitments on their behalf) is required to complete and sign the annual conflicts of interest form confirming that all conflicts and potential conflicts existing during the prior year, or currently existing, have been disclosed. The compensation review and approval policy adopted by the board of directors establishes a compensation committee of persons independent of the ceo and key employees. The compensation committee will evaluate the salary of key employees, and the ceo at such time the ceo may become compensated. The compensation committee will use comparable salary data from other organizations of similar size and scope. The compensation committee will document their research and deliberations and bring a salary recommendations to the board for deliberation and approval.

IN 2017 THE ORGANIZATION PROVIDED COMPLETE WATER SYSTEMS TO 19 SCHOOLS, AND PLANS TO PROVIDE AN ADDITIONAL 5 SYSTEMS IN 2018.IN 2017, BLESSMAN INTERNATIONAL, INC. ALSO CONSTRUCTED 30 NEW TOILET UNITS AT RURAL SCHOOLS AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTERS; PROVIDING CLEAN, SAFE, AND ENVIRONMENTALLY-FRIENDLY ALTERNATIVES TO DANGEROUS PIT TOILETS. THESE FACILITIES SERVE OVER 1,200 CHILDREN IN SOUTH AFRICA. THERE ARE PLANS TO CONSTRUCT AN ADDITIONAL 50 TOILET UNITS IN 2018, IMPACTING AN ADDITIONAL 2,000 CHILDREN. A LIMITED AMOUNT OF FRESH PRODUCE GROWN AT THE BLESSMAN FOOD PRODUCTION FARM IS ALSO MADE AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE BY VENTERS AT MARKET OR SUBSIDIZED COST. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION HAS DRILLED 4 WELLS AND BUILT 10 TOILETS AT 2 OF THESE LOCATIONS WITH PLANS TO BUILD MORE AS NEEDS ARE IDENTIFIED. IN 2017, THE ORGANIZATION STARTED TWO PILOT SCHOOL GARDENS WITH PLANS TO ESTABLISH MORE IN 2018 THROUGH ITS SUSTAINABLE AGRICULTURE TRAINING PROGRAM, "TEACH A CHILD TO FISH". THIS PROGRAM GIVES SOUTH AFRICAN CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES THE KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITY TO PROVIDE FOR THEIR OWN FOOD SECURITY. ADDITIONALLY, BLESSMAN INTERNATIONAL, INC.
