Major Activities

Activity 2
Lacey Recreation Complex - The Lacey Recreation Complex is a developmental project that MCRF started several years ago with the development of a 5-plex Little League Complex. This has grown to Little League, ASA, USSSA, Youth and High School Soccer, William Penn Soccer, Youth Football and this past season, the completion of two Babe Ruth baseball fields (these sports do not include the new stadium numbers, reported separately). For the Little League 2011 season the complex obliged over 23,000 spectators and William Penn girls softball brought another 500 spectators throughout its season. It was rather impressive to see the increase in USSSA from 2010 to 2011. This year USSSA had 2 triple headers, 1 double header, and they hosted the 2nd Annual Lacey Long Ball Classic Tournament. ASA hosted 3 tournaments last season and 1 this season. These sports brought over 5,000 spectators to the complex. Plans are to host tournaments again in the 2012 season. Youth football season brought 3,800 spectators to the complex and Youth soccer another 13,000 spectators. And finally, the grand opening of the Kentfield Babe Ruth baseball fields took place on May 8, 2011 and the fields were dedicated to Charlie Kentfield. Babe Ruth brought in a total of 1,800 spectators this season. In June they held a two day Jr. Babe Ruth Tournament with surrounding community teams. Each day averaged close to 200 spectators. That brings the total fiscal year spectators who visited the complex to over 47,000 not including the stadium!
Activity 3
New Football/Soccer Stadium at the Lacey Complex:MCRF partnered with William Penn to help develop a new football/soccer stadium for youth through college age sports. The stadium opened for the first time in August of 2011. The ninth graders from Oskaloosa High School played the first game on the new turf field, followed by the varsity team and the same weekend William Penn Football played. After the grand opening on August 26th, three games were held and several practices in the remaining 6 days of the month. A total of 4,350 spectators came to see these games for William Penn University. Youth participants serviced totaled 573 (including WP Football, High School Football, Hs Band and WP Band and WP girls soccer who played an inner squad scrimmage in the opening month). Those same youth practiced on different days making youth participants , with repeated visits equal 1073 for the 6 open days of August. Our fiscal year ended August 31st however many more community teams, events, and visitors to the stadium were impacted through the first season.

IRS990/Description0Trail tram tours were opened to the public: It began with a donation of an electric trail tram and one volunteer driver in the 2010 fall season. Trail tram tours began at local nursing homes with our friendly volunteer driver booking these first tours. The tours were designed for those elderly or physically challenged patrons who cannot make it onto the trail to walk or ride a bicycle. The trail tram tours provide those who would otherwise not be able, the opportunity to see the fall along the trail, including the beautiful scenery, tree leave changes and resting stops along the way. The program grew into three volunteer drivers and two trail trams, capable of touring 7 passengers each, driving the tours around Oskaloosa via the Lacey Recreation Trail in the fall 2011 season. MCRF now has three volunteers who train to drive, learn the route, and are given information regarding homes and sights along the trail. The drivers share this information with passengers. All reservations for the tours are through MCRF and the tours are free (although donations are accepted). The trail tours served 250 passengers with one volunteer in its opening fall of 2010 and 18 tours or 121 passengers in the month of August 2011. August also had 45 volunteer hours logged with our three drivers. The tour program grew in the 2011 fall season with three drivers and two tour trams from September to November.
