Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11B

Form 990 is e-mailed to all board members and any questions and/or concerns are addressed prior to submitting form 990 to the irs.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 12C

Directors, principal officers, or members of a committee with board delegated powers who have a direct or indirect financial interest are considered interested persons. An interested person has a potential conflict of interest if the person has, directly or indirectly, through business, investment, or family, an ownership investment and/or compensation arrangement with which the organization has business transactions or arrangements. The board of directors decide if a financial interest is considered a conflict of interest. Each interested person signs a statement affirming that they have received a copy of, have read and understand, and agree to comply with the conflicts of interest policy. Any potential conflicts of interest are discussed with disinterested board members, who decide the proper course of action in determining the best interests of the organization.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 15

The organization has a method and process which includes gathering comparative data from external sources for rating positions and determining compensation. Salary ranges have been established for all positions. The board reviews salaries of leadership team members in december for salaries effective the following january 1st. This includes salaries for the positions of president, director of finance, and director of technology. The board serves as the compensation committee and evaluates the president's salary based upon comparable data and president's performance evaluation.

Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19

The organization's governing documents, conflict of interest policy, and financial statements are not available to the public.

STEWARDSHIP SCIENCE INCLUDES AREAS OF STUDY RELATIVE TO HIGH ENERGY DENSITY PHYSICS, NUCLEAR SCIENCE, MATERIALS UNDER EXTREME CONDITIONS, AND HYDRODYNAMICS. THE FELLOWS COMPLETE A PROGRAM OF STUDY AT A UNITED STATES RESEARCH UNIVERSITY, SPEND AT LEAST TWELVE CONSECUTIVE WEEKS AT A DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY NATIONAL DEFENSE LABORATORY WORKING ON A RESEARCH PROJECT OF IMPORTANCE TO THE NATION, AND ATTEND AN ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM TO SHARE THEIR RESEARCH EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER STUDENTS IN THE STEWARDSHIP SCIENCE GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM AND WITH DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY HEADQUARTERS AND LABORATORY RESEARCH STAFF. DURING FY2025, FIVE FELLOWS COMPLETED THE PHD FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM AND ARE NOW EMPLOYED IN EITHER POSTDOCTORAL PROGRAMS, IN AN EDUCATIONAL FIELD, OR AT DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY LABORATORIES. FIVE NEW STUDENTS WERE SELECTED TO RECEIVE FELLOWSHIPS, BRINGING THE TOTAL NUMBER OF FELLOWS IN THE PROGRAM TO 20. SSGF FELLOWS WERE ENROLLED AT 12 DIFFERENT RESEARCH UNIVERSITIES IN THE UNITED STATES. THE DEPARTMENT OF ENERGY NATIONAL NUCLEAR SECURITY ADMINISTRATION LABORATORY RESIDENCY GRADUATE FELLOWSHIP (DOE NNSA LRGF) SELECTS AND SUPPORTS STUDENTS PURSUING A PH.D.
