Prevention of Child Abuse in our community. We provide support for programs to educate and serve at risk families in our community.
Prevent child abuse for Mills County children through the provision of education and support to families and community.

| Parenting Education Programs: 15 At-Risk families were served with Parents as Teachers education programs at no cost to participants. This curriculum based program provides a Certified PAT Educator to work with parents of children age 0-5 who have limited community and family support. The purpose of the program is to decrease abuse by educating parents about their child's development and methods of stimulating that development. Parents are also provided with opportunities to participate in group activities that allow them to force supportive bonds I the community, education in child development and ways to effe3ctively parent. Children also receive developmental screenings and referrals to needed services. Families who receive these services overwhelmingly agree they feel more competent as a parent and better able to be their child's first and best teacher. Visits are provided in the home on a weekly basis with group activities provided monthly. (30 children served) Funding provided by Prevent Child Abuse Iowa grant funds. | $18,189 | $18,189 |
| Parenting Education Programs: Grant funds were provided to fund the Storks Nest project with services directed to teen and young at-risk parents of children up to age 2. Parents sign up for the program, participate in healthy behaviors and educational activities to earn points which can then be used to purchase new baby supplies in the NEST Store. Parents are encouraged to provide ongoing healthcare for themselves and their children and participate in other helping programs. By improving their knowledge base regarding child development and child care as well as receiving health based services for their children - child abuse can be delayed and prevented. Neglect is the most rapidly increasing area of child abuse. This program hits right at the heart of the issue (70 clients served) All participants receive services at no charge.
