Mission

Mission: millions of people in the united states, 1 in 5 or nearly 60 million, face the day-to-day reality of living with a mental health condition. Nami, the national alliance on mental illness, is the nation's largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to providing advocacy, education, support and public awareness so that individuals and families affected by mental illness can build better lives. Nami black hawk county (the organization which is the local chapter) is a grassroots mental health organization founded by family members, determined to fight stigma, and to create a system of recovery for people living with mental illness. The organization provides advocacy, education, and mutual support through free classes, educational programs, presentations, support groups, and trainings. The organization works with all people who are affected by mental illness and additionally educates the public about mental illness to improve understanding of people who are living with t
