The y's programs strengthen the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Continued on schedule o.the y's programs focus on improving people's spiritual, intellectual, and physical well-being to support people as they actualize their fullest potential. The ymca serves community members of all abilities, ages, cultural backgrounds, races, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, faith, ideology, income, and national origin. No one is turned away. We offer financial assistance when there is a demonstrated need.

Statement of purpose the ymca is a powerful association of men, women and children of all ages and from all walks of life joined together by a shared passion: to strengthen the foundations of community. The y ensures that every individual has access to the essentials needed to learn, grow and thrive. The ymca mission is "to put christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all." we help people develop the skills and relationships they need to be healthy, confident and connected to others. The ymca of greater des moines focuses on: - youth development: nuturing the potential of every child; - healthy living: improving health and quality of life; - social responsibility: giving back and helping our neighbors; the y makes accessible the support and opportunities that empower people and communities. The y is open to people of all ages, races, religions, and income levels, and strives to never turn anyone away due to an inability to pay. Programs are priced affordably, and financial assistance is available. We are a volunteer directed organization, and as such, no individuals profit monetarily as a result of our operations. Statement of program service accomplishments since 1868, the ymca of greater des moines has provided programs and services to individuals of all ages within the central iowa area. We accomplish our mission through programs that develop character by teaching and demonstrating the positive values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. The ymca offers a variety of programs for all ages, and programs are designed to meet the needs of the children, adults, and families who participate. Ymca programs nurture the healthy development of children and adults, provide a solid foundation of the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility, encourage positive behavior with teens, and strengthen families - all of which result in our communities and neighborhoods being safe and healthy places to live, work, and play. The ymca of greater des moines consists of twelve branches that strengthen the foundations of community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Those branches are: the ankeny family ymca is located north of des moines in ankeny. This was the first ymca in the nation to be established as part of a shared-use agreement with a local school district. Our groundbreaking partnership with the ankeny community schools reflects our commitment to strengthening our community and impacting families and youth through our cause-driven programs and events. The boone county family ymca is located in boone. This ymca is known as the county's community center - a place where connections create a sense of belonging. Whether it be to drop in for a cup of coffee, watch a child's first swim lesson or achieve a long-time fitness goal, everyone is welcome, supported and accepted. This branch is the hub of a small community and takes the role seriously by focusing on each member as an individual. Variety club of iowa/city of des moines john r. Grubb community ymca is located in the urban core of des moines. This ymca has worked diligently to nurture the potential of kids in the urban area of des moines. Though our strength and focus is youth development, we have also made vital contributions to the community by providing a safe, nurturing and healthy environment for all. Indianola ymca is located south of des moines in indianola. Through a unique partnership with the city of indianola, the indianola community school district and simpson college, the indianola y is contributing to a high quality of life in the warren county community. Riverfront ymca is located in downtown des moines. In addition to being a popular choice for downtown workers, riverfront also buzzes with families and children of diverse backgrounds and ethnicities. Description of services out of school time programming - ymca programs support youth development across nine proven areas of well-being including inspiration through the positive benefits derived from exposure to and engagement with art, culture and nature; health by practicing positive habits that include physical activity and healthy eating; achievement by building confidence through learning, goal attainment and skill-building; belonging through the connection of others in supporting a community of people; relationship by building bonds with staff role models and friends; meaning through the spiritual contentment that comes from having a strong sense of hope, faith and purpose; safety by feeling secure and making sure that basic needs are being met; character by personally accepting and demonstrating positive values; and giving by having a genuine desire to be of service to others. Core programs include academic pre-school, pre-school development programs, day camp, resident camp, before and after school, youth sports swim lessons, swim team and teen intramurals. Family programming - ymca family programs strengthen and support families by providing opportunities for families to play and learn together. Programs provide opportunities for family members to spend quality time together and have fun. Core programs include parent/child classes, family recreational activities, family fitness and family nights. Medically integrated programming - the ymca of greater des moines provides medically-integrated programs to address primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. The y brings a new approach to health, healing, and healthy living to our community through a "medically integrated" approach that joins together both medical and fitness professionals to provide evidence-based programs to more effectively impact a person's health and well-being. Health care professionals write patient prescriptions to the medically integrated environment to help their patients achieve and maintain improved levels of health. Health care through the medically-integrated programming is not treatment for the moment but rather healthcare for a lifetime. Medically-integrated programming works to treat a specific disease or health-related condition then transitions the patient toward a long-term, healthy lifestyle. The programs make more of an impact by providing comprehensive, integrated treatment by transitioning care for general wellness, to improve and maintain health and prevent further injury. The medically-integrated programming promotes quality patient/client care, helps decrease health care expenditures, and improves population health within our community and surrounding areas. Core programs include physical therapy, aquatic therapy, diabetes prevention and intervention, childhood obesity, living with chronic disease exercise, and cancer survivor services. Healthy lifestyle programming - ymca health and fitness programs provide a variety of safe and effective alternatives for all ages and abilities to improve or maintain a healthy lifestyle. Trained and certified staff provides personalized and group leadership in a wide variety of settings. Personalized individual support comes in the form of wellness coaching. Core programs include group exercise classes, water aerobics, personal training, wellness coaching, martial arts, yoga, pilates, strength training, group cycling, older adult functional fitness and walking programs. Eliminating homelessness - our work at the ymca supportive housing campus is based on the "housing first" solution which focuses on providing homeless or near homeless individuals with stable, permanent housing as quickly as possible, followed by any support services he or she may need to gain employment, address mental or physical illness, and/or deal with any number of other issues/challenges. The association is exempt from federal income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and, accordingly, no provision for income taxes has been made in the accounts. As required by the income taxes topic of the fasb accounting standards codification, the association has evaluated their material tax positions and determined no income tax effects with respect to the financial statements. The association is no longer subject to us federal or state income tax examinations by tax authorities for the years before 2009. The association has not been notified of any impending examinations by tax authorities, and no examinations are in process.
