Anyone paying dues per the schedule as published in the hosta journal is considered a member of the society. Only members of the society may be elected to the board. Annually at the national convention, the members present may vote on any and all actions that the executive board presents as activities, concerns and/or programs of the society.”

Members not having access to the internet and who wish to access paper copies of these documents are informed through the two paper journal publications that any and all governing documents may be requested of the board at anytime. This includes the by-laws, the budget and other financial statements, and forms 990. A financial report is made verbally to the membership and is available in hard copy at the annual national convention.”

“This is a volunteer organization whose members and board members live nationwide. There is no permanent edifice housing organizational offices. The treasurer's position is one without term limits. The treasurer's home address is used for official mailings. Should the treasurer receive communications requiring action by another board member, that communication is passed on via mail or email.”
