| California Families in Focus 2024 Annual Highlights and Organizational Transition In 2024, California Families in Focus (CFF) remained committed to its mission of uplifting, empowering, and advocating for underserved communities in Long Beach, despite a transformative year marked by significant internal change and the need to scale down programs due to leadership transition and resource constraints. Among our most heartfelt accomplishments this year was the awarding ofthree scholarships to exceptional youth entering their freshman year of college. These scholarships, given to students who demonstrated both academic promise and community leadership, reflect CFFs continued investment in the next generation of change makers. We were also proud tocollaborate with LB Proud! to host thefourth Annual Trans Pride event in Long Beach. This event has grown into a beacon of visibility, inclusion, and affirmation for the transgender community and allies. Through shared resources and collective effort, CFF helped ensure a safe and celebratory space for trans youth and families during a time of growing need for solidarity and public support. In a spirit of cultural pride and family connection, we provided100 tickets for local youth and their familiesto attend the belovedLong Beach Tamale Festival. For many, this was not just an opportunity to enjoy food and entertainment, but a moment to experience cultural affirmation, intergenerational joy, and community belonging, something especially meaningful after years of pandemic-related disruption. We alsopartnered with the City of Long Beachfor its annualWinter Wonderland celebration, helping to bring a snowy atmosphere and festive cheer to families during the holiday season. This collaboration continues to reflect our long-standing relationship with the city and our commitment to ensuring that all children experience joy during the holidays, regardless of socioeconomic background. Additionally, we proudly hosted our21st Annual Spirit of Christmas, a legacy event dedicated to serving individuals and families with disabilities. This cherished tradition has consistently offered inclusive holiday celebrations, gifts, music, and recognition to those too often overlooked by mainstream programs. This year was no different, even as we operated with reduced capacity and leaned heavily on our dedicated volunteers and partners. Organizational Transition and Resilience While these community-facing achievements are notable, 2024 also marked a period of deep internal transformation for California Families in Focus. After more than two decades of visionary leadership, our beloved founder and CEO,Maria Angel Macias, entered a well-earned retirement. Her departure prompted a necessary reevaluation and downsizing of our ongoing programs and events to ensure sustainability during this transition. Navigating daily operations and long-standing community expectations without her guiding hand required both humility and determination. To continue the work with integrity and care, we welcomedJorian Fletcheras our new Board President,Angel Floresas Secretary, andDonaldo Reedas a new Board Member. This evolving leadership team has embraced the organizations values and worked diligently to learn, adapt, and carry the torch forward. Though the scope of our programming had to be refined this year, each initiative was carried out with purpose, impact, and love. We thank our community for their patience, partnership, and unwavering support as we move into a new era of service. California Families in Focusremains rooted in its mission and committed to reimagining a sustainable, inclusive future where every child, family, and individual in Long Beach feels seen, supported, and empowered. | - | - |
