Major Activities

Activity 2: Development of norway.com: the foundation increased its ownership by purchase of the balance of company shares in norgate onlineas, the publisher of www.norway.com and the home portal for the norwegian american foundation. With over 500,000 monthly readers, this is the largest portal between norway and the united states. The work to improve content and relevancy continued throughout 2009. Starting in 2010 operation of the foundation was very limited.
Activity 3: Education initiative: a foundation initiative in 2007 to encourage norwegian american colleges and universities to cooperate in marketing to attract more norwegian students to the us and more us student to study in norway was successfully launched as the nordic american learning alliance (nala) in 2008. 2009 activities included additional cooperative recruiting and publicizing among the 6 participating universities. The nala web site continues to increase in activity and successful recruiting. Us norway forum: the foundation is the secretariat and planner of the the us norway forum, with the norwegian ambassador as chairman. 2009's forum was held in seattle, wa on november 13. The agenda focused on student exchange. Starting in 2010 operation of the foundation was very limited.

IN 2008 THE FOUNDATION PURCHASED NORWAY TIMES IN NEW YORK AND MERGED IT WITH THE NORWEGIAN AMERICAN WEEKLY. MUCH WORK WAS DONE TO MODERNIZE THE OPERATION OF THE NEWSPAPER, PRINTING AND LAYOUT. AS A NATIONAL NEWSPAPER, THE PRINTING WAS MOVED TO MINNEAPOLIS, REDUCING MAILING TIME TO BOTH COASTS. IN 2009, OPERATIONS CONCENTRATED ON INCREASING CIRCULATION AND CONTINUALLY IMPROVING CONTENT, QUALITY AND SUBSCRIBER SATISFACTION. IN 2010 OPERATIONS WERE VERY LIMITED.
