Mission and Program Overview

Mission

We envision a st. Paul where sustainable transportation is the safe and easy choice. We collaborate with individuals, organizations and government to: promote the use of sustainable transportation options for all trips, with a focus on changing the behavior of area residents and employees; educate the public and public officials about the need for investment in transportation choices, such as improved transit service and facilities, new bicycle routes and trails, and improved conditions for pedestrians; and work toward development and zoning that promotes more transit use, bicycling, and walking, and less use of single occupant vehicles.

St. Paul smart trips improves access and mobility for those who travel in and around st. Paul.

IRS990/ProgSrvcAccomActy3Grp/Desc0THE ST. PAUL WOMEN ON BIKES (WOB) COALITION OF WOMEN AND FAMILIES CONTINUED TO GROW IN 2015. OUR WORK WAS INTEGRAL TO THE PASSAGE OF THE SAINT PAUL BICYCLE PLAN. WE PROVIDED RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE CITY THAT RESULTED IN MANY CHANGES AND ADDITIONS TO THE PLAN. IN ADDITION, WE WORKED TO BUILD AND ACTIVATE SUPPORT FOR PLAN, RESULTING IN NEARLY 200 PEOPLE IN ATTENDANCE AT THE FINAL CITY COUNCIL VOTE, INCLUDING MANY WOMEN AND FAMILIES. WE WORKED WITH ABOUT 20 WOMEN AND BUSINESS REPRESENTATIVES TO TESTIFY IN SUPPORT OF THE PLAN. SINCE PASSAGE, WOB HAS SUPPORTED OUR NETWORK TO INFLUENCE BIKE PLAN IMPLEMENTATION. WOB REPRESENTATIVES SERVED ON COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEES FOR THE DOWNTOWN LOOP AND GRAND ROUND, ATTENDED PUBLIC OPEN HOUSES AND CITY COUNCIL HEARINGS, WORKED TO MOVE THE 4TH STREET MARKET DISTRICT CONCEPT FORWARD, AND REGULARLY MET WITH ELECTED OFFICIALS AND OTHER DECISION MAKERS. WE RECEIVED THE ADVOCATE OF THE YEAR AWARD FROM THE BICYCLE ALLIANCE OF MINNESOTA. IN ADDITION TO ADVOCACY, WE OFFERED COMMUNITY-BUILDING AND EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES. WE HOSTED BIKES MEAN BUSINESS HAPPY HOURS AND OFFERED A VARIETY OF RIDE OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDING WEEKLY JOYRIDES, WEEKLY DOWNTOWN RIDES IN CONJUNCTION WITH NICE RIDE, AND OTHER FAMILY-FRIENDLY RIDES. THIS SUMMER, IN RESPONSE TO FOCUS GROUP FEEDBACK, WE TESTED A NEW APPROACH TO EDUCATION THAT WE CALL PEDAL TOGETHER. AIMED AT BUILDING CONFIDENCE AMONG NEW OR INEXPERIENCED BIKERS, THESE LEISURELY NEIGHBORHOOD RIDES OFFER OPPORTUNITIES TO PRACTICE BASIC BIKING SKILLS IN A RELAXED AND CASUAL SETTING. DURING THE SUMMER WE HELD 7 PEDAL TOGETHER EVENTS -- 2 IN FROGTOWN, 2 ON THE EAST SIDE, 2 IN THE NORTH END, AND 1 ON THE WEST SIDE.
