CENTRALIZED, EASY ACCESS TO INFORMATION ABOUT THE SUPPLY AND LOCATION OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING INFORMATION IS VITAL TO ENSURE THAT COMMUNITY DECISIONS ARE WELL-INFORMED, AND THAT LOW-INCOME HOUSEHOLDS ARE EMPOWERED TO OBTAIN HOUSING IN THEIR LOCATIONS OF CHOICE.HOUSINGLINK CONNECTS RENTERS TO THE RELEVANT, VITAL INFORMATION THEY NEED TO FIND THE APPROPRIATE AFFORDABLE HOME FOR THEIR HOUSEHOLD. SPECIFICALLY, HLIST IS AN ONLINE TOOL WHICH ALLOWS USERS TO FIND AFFORDABLE VACANCIES AND WAITING LISTS. OVER 455,000 SEARCHES FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING WERE PERFORMED USING HLIST DURING 2011. TYPICALLY, RENTERS ARE ABLE TO LOCATE THE INFORMATION THEY NEED IN LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES.THE FOLLOWING HOUSINGLINK WEB TRAFFIC RECORDS WERE SET IN 2011: * 455,000 SEARCHES FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING* 113,000 AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND WAITING LIST OPENINGS POSTED* 80% OF DIRECTLY ENTERED LISTINGS ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT A SECTION 8 VOUCHER. * 2.1 MILLION PAGE VIEWS* 49,000 VISITS FOR INFORMATION ABOUT SUBSIDIZED HOUSING PROGRAMS* 45,000 VISITS TO VIEW THE STATUS OF HOUSING AUTHORITY WAITING LISTS* 3,000 VISITS TO ACCESS FAIR HOUSING INFORMATION* 9,000 HOUSING OPPORTUNITIES FOUND FOR HENNEPIN COUNTY CASE MANAGEMENT CLIENTS* HALERT A NEW TOOL THAT SENDS AN EMAIL OR TEXT MESSAGE WITH HOUSING LISTINGS WAS LAUNCHED, MORE THE 694,000 OPENINGS WERE SENT TO 563 USER PROFILES. 85% OF RENTERS AND 100% OF CASE MANAGERS THAT USED HALERT SAID IT HELPED THEM OR THEIR CLIENTS FIND HOUSING OR GET ON A WAITING LIST.HOUSINGLINK ALSO PROVIDES COMMUNITY SERVICES WITH THE AGGREGATE DATA NEEDED TO INFORM LEGISLATION, POLICY AND RESEARCH. THIS GROUP MIGHT INCLUDE INDEPENDENT RESEARCHERS STUDYING THE FORECLOSURE CRISIS, OR LOCAL POLICYMAKERS WORKING TO END LONG-TERM HOMELESSNESS. IN THE FIRST FEW MONTHS 23 SUBSCRIBERS HAVE SIGNED UP FOR THE REPORT. IN 2011 HOUSINGLINK'S RESEARCH FOR THE MCKNIGHT FOUNDATION HOUSING MEASURES REPORT, REVEALED THAT IT COSTS 40% LESS TO PRESERVE AFFORDABLE HOUSING COMPARED TO NEW CONSTRUCTION. HOUSINGLINK ALSO CREATED AN INVENTORY OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR THE CENTRAL CORRIDOR TO HELP COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS PLAN FOR CHANGES COMING TO THE AREA.
