Financial Statement Notes

PART III, LINE 1A:

The collections, which were acquired through purchases and contributions since the organization's inception, are not recognized as assets on the statements of financial position. Purchases of collection items are recorded as decreases in unrestricted net assets in the year in which the items are acquired, or decreases in donor restricted net assets if the assets used to purchase the items are restricted by donors. The organization's collections are made up of works of art that are held for public exhibition, educational and research purposes. Each of the items is protected, kept unencumbered, cared for, and preserved and activities verifying their existence and assessing their condition are performed continuously. Should a donated object of art ever be sold, all proceeds must be used to repair, preserve or purchase other pieces of art.
