Financial Statement Notes

PART IV, LINE 1B:

The organization is representative payee for clients' personal funds held in a fiduciary account for safekeeping, which totaled $892,780 at june 30, 2014. The social security administration regulates applicable accounting and reporting procedures. Client personal needs accounts are not reported in the organization's financial statements.

PART X, LINE 2:

Asc 740 disclosure from audited financial statements: the organization is exempt from federal and state income taxes under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code, therefore, the statements do not include a provision for income taxes. The organization reviews income tax positions taken or expected to be taken in income tax returns to determine if there are any income tax uncertainties. This includes positions that the entity is exempt from income taxes or not subject to income taxes on unrelated business income. The organization recognizes tax benefits from uncertain tax positions only if it is more likely than not that the tax positions will be sustained on examination by taxing authorities, based on the technical merits of the positions. The organization has identified no income tax uncertainties. The organization files information returns as a tax-exempt organization. Should that status be challenged in the future, all years since inception could be subject to review by the irs. The organization's federal and state returns are open to examination for tax years 2010 through 2012.

THREE NEW CONTRACTS WERE ADDED THIS YEAR, ONE WITH RAMSEY COUNTY PROVIDING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES IN THE LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER, A SECOND WITH HUD PROVIDING SUPPORTIVE HOUSING TO INMATES WITH MENTAL ILLNESS BEING DISCHARGED FROM A STATE PRISON, AND LASTLY A STATE CONTRACT TO FACILITATE DISCHARGES FROM ANOKA METRO REGIONAL TREATMENT CENTER AND MINNESOTA SECURITY HOSPITAL. SMHS PROVIDES REPRESENTATIVE PAYEE SERVICES TO OVER 920 VULNERABLE ADULTS DUE FEDERAL BENEFITS WHO NEED HELP TO MANAGE FINANCIAL PLANS FOR BASIC NEEDS.THE TRAINING INSTITUTE PROVIDED TRAINING TO APPROXIMATELY 572 HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS IN THE PAST YEAR. ADDITIONALLY, THE AGENCY HAS BEEN ACTIVE WITH MN DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN SERVICES IN DEVELOPING A NEW RULE TO CERTIFY PRACTITIONERS WHO ARE COMPETENT TO PROVIDE TREATMENT FOR CO-OCCURRING DISORDERS.
