“The oversight and selection process over the independent auditors has not changed in the current year.”

Financial Statement Notes

PART V, LINE 4:

“The organization has an investment with the northwest minnesota foundation (nmf). The investment is permanently restricted with only the earnings available for projects and activities within the stated purpose of the fund. Under the terms of the agreement, nmf holds the funds as an agent. Options: interstate resource center for independent living is the owner of the fund and receives distributions of income, subject to nmf's spending policy.”

PART X, LINE 2:

“The organization is exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code. However, income from certain activities not directly related to the organization's tax-exempt purpose is subject to taxation as unrelated business income. In addition, the organization qualifies for the charitable contribution deduction under section 170(b)(1)(a) and has been classified as an organization that is not a private foundation under section 509(a)(2). The organization's policy is to evaluate the likelihood that its uncertain tax positions will prevail upon examination based on the extent to which those positions have substantial support within the internal revenue code and regulations, revenue rulings, court decisions and other evidence. It is the opinion of management that the organization has no significant uncertain tax positions that would be subject to change upon examination. The federal income tax returns of the organization are subject to examination by the irs, generally for three years after they were filed.”
