Only regular members may hold office. Only regular, emeritus, postdoctoral, and graduate student members may vote, sponsor new members, make nominations, and sponsor an abstract for the annual meeting.”

“Annually, council members, and committee members are asked to sign an agreement to comply with the ascb conflict of interest policy, as they are society leaders. Employees are required to follow the plan included in the staff manual, provided upon joining the ascb. A society leader cannot vote on a matter pertaining to someone with whom the leader has a personal relationship, that goes beyond that of a professional acquaintance or casual friendship, unless the relationship is disclosed and unconflicted colleagues, also voting on the matter, approve. A society leader cannot participate in society decisions that could increase the value of a commercial enterprise, in which the leader, or an individual with whom he/she has a personal relationship that goes beyond that of a professional acquaintance or casual friendship, has a financial interest, either directly or indirectly. A society leader cannot vote on a position statement or other matter that would specifically benefit an institution with whom the society leader or relative currently has or seeks a personal affiliation. When an individual brings a conflict of interest to the organization's attention, it is first reviewed and discussed with the ceo, who then discusses this with the ascb executive committee. Together they determine the appropriate way to address the conflict. In some cases, conflict of interests may be brought to the council for discussion and to determine the appropriate way to address the conflict. Discussions related to conflicts of interest are recorded in the minutes.”
