“Established in 1999, nami washington county (nami wc) is a local affiliate of the national alliance of mental illness. Using a variety of methods, nami wc provides mental health support and crisis stabilization programming. Staffed by peers and volunteers, our programs are designed to center around creating a stigma-free community where persons affected by mental illness and those caring for them experience recovery, resiliency, and overall well-being so they can live their best lives. For fiscal year 2020, nami wc closed all programming from march 26 - july 6, 2020. When we re-opened the center, it was with strict social distancing guidelines, mandatory mask wearing, and program pre-registration. There is increased weekly cleaning and cleaning tasks added to the duties of the program facilitators. All of these requirements greatly affected the number of individuals we were able to reach within the community. In 2020 nami wc provided peer-led recovery services to 124 unduplicated adults living with mental illness or caring for someone with mental illness. The number served in-person was 30 individuals. The remaining 94 adults received services through the zoom platform. Nami wc also provided programming to unduplicated 1,677 teens. Of these teens, 1,654 received prevention education via the zoom platform. The remaining 29 teens received in-person support services and art therapy.”
