The objectives of the professional fire fighters of wisconsin, inc. Shall be to cultivate a closer feeling of friendship and fellowship among the fire fighters/emergency medical personnel of the state of wisconsin; the promotion of legislation to advance the interests of fire fighters/emergency medical personnel; to maintain and improve an effective and substantial pension law; to promote a safe and healthy working environment for fire fighters/emergency medical personnel as possible; to promote emergency medical services as a fire-based service; to protect the fire fighters/emergency medical personnel in their positions; and the maintenance and improvement of the right to collective bargaining for the fire fighters/emergency medical personnel in every department in the state of wisconsin.

Governance Explanations

Form 990, Part VI, Section A, Line 6

The organization has the following classes of members: active. Active membership in the professional fire fighters of wisconsin shall be open to such local unions in the state of wisconsin who are chartered by and affiliated with the international association of fire fighters. Members of such local unions shall be employees who have been organized by the iaff, are full time, are paid and are engaged in firefighting, emergency medical or rescue services activities. Anyone eligible for membership in the pffw shall not be refused membership, or upon acceptance be discriminated against because of age, race, color, religion, creed, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, marital or family status, by reason of disability, or status as a military veteran. Honorary. Any persons may be elected to honorary membership by a vote of the majority of the members of the pffw assembled in convention. Honorary membership is subject to revocation for good cause. Such persons shall not have voting rights nor the right to hold office. Retired. Any fire fighters that retired from a local affiliated with the pffw may maintain their membership. Such persons shall not have voting rights nor the right to hold office. Associate. A local union in the state of wisconsin, chartered by, and affiliated with the iaff and not affiliated with the pffw may be granted an associate membership by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the delegates present, and voting for adoption. The pffw shall not allow for any voting rights for delegates that attend the pffw annual convention, nor be eligible to hold office. Application for such membership shall be made via a resolution detailing terms and conditions of the membership and submitted by the pffw executive board. Emeritus. Any former state president, state vice-president, state secretary-treasurer of the pffw, may be elected to the position of "emeritus" of the office he/she last held, by a vote of the majority of the members assembled at the pffw convention as submitted by resolution. Such persons shall not have voting rights. In order to be considered for pffw "emeritus" status: (a) the individual shall have served as state president, state vice-president, state secretary-treasurer of the pffw for eight (8) years of service; (b) an individual shall not be eligible for "emeritus" status until the convention following his/her leaving office; (c) an individual shall not be eligible for "emeritus" status while employed by a fire department. Exceptional membership. "exceptional" membership is for those individuals who provide service above and beyond the call of duty to the pffw but are not elected as an officer of the organization and shall have all the rights and privileges of "emeritus" status.

(PFFW) LOBBIES ON BEHALF OF FIRE FIGHTERS IN THE STATE OF WISCONSIN TO IMPROVE FIRE FIGHTER AND EMS PERSONNEL SAFETY THROUGH APPROPRIATE ALLOCATION OF RESOURCES TO OPERATE SUCCESSFULLY ON THE SCENE OF A FIRE OR MEDICAL EMERGENCY. PFFW REPRESENTS OVER 4,000 FIRE FIGHTERS IN OVER 100 LOCAL COMMUNITIES ACROSS THE STATE. PFFW ALSO RAISES AWARENESS OF THE IMPORTANCE OF FIRE SAFETY AND OTHER CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS THAT BENEFIT FIRE FIGHTERS AND EMS PERSONNEL.

MEMBERS OF SUCH LOCAL UNIONS SHALL BE EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE BEEN ORGANIZED BY THE IAFF, ARE FULL TIME, ARE PAID AND ARE ENGAGED IN FIREFIGHTING, EMERGENCY MEDICAL OR RESCUE SERVICES ACTIVITIES. ANYONE ELIGIBLE FOR MEMBERSHIP IN THE PFFW SHALL NOT BE REFUSED MEMBERSHIP, OR UPON ACCEPTANCE BE DISCRIMINATED AGAINST BECAUSE OF AGE, RACE, COLOR, RELIGION, CREED, NATIONAL ORIGIN, SEX, GENDER IDENTITY OR EXPRESSION, SEXUAL ORIENTATION, MARITAL OR FAMILY STATUS, BY REASON OF DISABILITY, OR STATUS AS A MILITARY VETERAN. HONORARY. ANY PERSONS MAY BE ELECTED TO HONORARY MEMBERSHIP BY A VOTE OF THE MAJORITY OF THE MEMBERS OF THE PFFW ASSEMBLED IN CONVENTION. HONORARY MEMBERSHIP IS SUBJECT TO REVOCATION FOR GOOD CAUSE. SUCH PERSONS SHALL NOT HAVE VOTING RIGHTS. IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR PFFW "EMERITUS" STATUS: (A) THE INDIVIDUAL SHALL HAVE SERVED AS STATE PRESIDENT, STATE VICE-PRESIDENT, STATE SECRETARY-TREASURER OF THE PFFW FOR EIGHT (8) YEARS OF SERVICE; (B) AN INDIVIDUAL SHALL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR "EMERITUS" STATUS UNTIL THE CONVENTION FOLLOWING HIS/HER LEAVING OFFICE; (C) AN INDIVIDUAL SHALL NOT BE ELIGIBLE FOR "EMERITUS" STATUS WHILE EMPLOYED BY A FIRE DEPARTMENT. EXCEPTIONAL MEMBERSHIP.
