OPERATES A 20 UNIT APARTMENT BUILDING KNOWN AS RIDGEVIEW APARTMENTS WHICH SERVES ELDERLY AND DISABLED RESIDENTS OF THE COMMUNITY. THIS APARTMENT UNIT IS SUBSIDIZED BY THE US DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT (HUD) WHICH ENABLES THE APARTMENT BUILDING'S TENANTS TO INCUR RENT EXPENSE BASED ON THEIR INCOME LEVELS ALLOWING RESIDENTS TO LIVE IN A MUCH MORE COMFORTABLE SETTING THAN THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO AFFORD ON THEIR OWN. THE RENT CALCULATION IS 30% OF THE TENANTS INCOME AFTER MEDICAL EXPENSES ARE DEDUCTED. IN THE FISCAL YEAR ENDING SEPTEMBER 30, 2012, $88,479 OR APPROXIMATELY 61% OF THE RENT INCOME RECEIVED BY CMH HOUSING WAS PAID BY HUD MEANING THE TENANTS RESPONSIBILITY AVERAGED ONLY APPROXIMATELY 39% OF THE RENT CHARGED.A LARGE POSITIVE IMPACT THAT CMH HOUSING HAS ON THE COMMUNITY IS BY HAVING ALL 20 UNITS IN THE BUILDING HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBLE. THIS ALLOWS SEVERLY DISABLED INDIVIDUALS TO LIVE IN THE INDEPENDENT SETTING WITH ALL OF THE AMENITIES THEY NEED TO FUNCTION ON THEIR OWN OR WITH THEIR CAREGIVERS. HALF OF THE APARTMENT UNITS ARE TWO BEDROOM APARTMENTS TO HELP ACCOMODATE INDIVIDUALS WITH LIVE IN CAREGIVERS.IN ADDITION TO THE APARTMENTS BEING SET UP FOR HANDICAPPED ACCESSIBILITY, THE APARTMENT COMPLEX IS ALSO LOCATED ADJACENT TO COMMUNITY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL, INC. WHICH ALLOWS THE TENANTS EASIER ACCESS TO HEALTHCARE COVERAGE IS AND WHEN IT IS NEEDED.THE COMMUNITY ROOM IN RIDGEVIEW APARTMENTS IS A PLACE WHERE TENANTS CAN GATHER TO SOCIALIZE. PLANNED ACTIVITIES INCLUDE WEEKLY BINGO AND AN ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY. TENANTS ALSO ORGANIZE THEIR OWN CARD GAMES AND USE THE COMMUNITY ROOM FOR PERSONAL PARTIES WITH THEIR FAMILIES AND OTHER RESIDENTS.THE NEED FOR THIS TYPE OF AFFORDABLE HOUSING IN THE COMMUNITY IS FURTHER SUPPORTED BY THE FACT THAT THAT AT SEPTEMBER 30, 2012, THE END OF THE FISCAL YEAR, CMH HOUSING WAS AT 100% OCCUPANCY, WITH PEOPLE ON A WAITING LIST.CMH HOUSING PROVIDES AREA RESIDENTS THE OPPORTUNITY TO LIVE INDEPENDENTLY IN A COMFORTABLE SETTING AT AN AFFORDABLE COST WHICH IS BASED ON THEIR INCOME LEVEL.
