Mission

Mount mary university, an urban catholic university for women sponsored by the school sisters of notre dame, provides an environment for the development of the whole person. Prior to board action on a contract or other transaction involving a conflict of interest, a board member having a conflict of interest shall disclose all facts material to the conflict of interest. Such disclosure shall be reflected in the minutes of the meeting. A person who has a conflict of interest shall not participate in the decision except to disclose material facts and to respond to questions, the person having a conflict of interest may not vote on the contract or transaction. Staff members who have a conflict of interest with respect to a contract or transaction that is not the subject of board action shall disclose to the president of mmu any such conflict of interest. That staff member shall refrain from any action that may affect mmu's participation in such contract or transaction. In the event it is not entirely clear that a conflict of interest exists, the individual with the potential conflict shall disclose the circumstances to the president of mmu. Each board member and employee of mmu shall be provided with and asked to review a copy of this policy and to acknowledge in writing that he or she has done so. Annually, each board member and employee shall complete a disclosure form identifying any relationships or circumstances in which he or she is involved that he or she believes could contribute to a conflict of interest.

Mount mary university's school of business offers undergraduate and mba students the ability to specialize in human resources management, and has shortened the timeline for undergraduate business students to earn their mba. These new enhancements became effective in fall 2023.mount mary's human resources courses will address key hr areas such as staffing, training and development, compensation, benefits and labor-management relations. Coursework is designed around standards set by shrm, which will prepare students for the association's professional certification.

Financial Statement Notes

PART X, LINE 2:

The university has received a determination letter from the internal revenue service indicating that it is a tax-exempt organization as provided for in section 501(c)(3) of the internal revenue code and is exempt from federal and state income taxes, except for taxes pertaining to unrelated business income. No provision has been made for income taxes in the accompanying financial statements because the university does not have a significant amount of unrelated business income. The university follows the accounting standards for contingencies in evaluating uncertain tax positions. The guidance prescribes recognition threshold principles for the financial statement recognition of tax positions taken or expected to be taken on a tax return that are not certain to be realized. No liability has been recognized by the university for uncertain tax position as of june 30, 2024 and 2023. The university's tax returns are subject to review and examination for federal and state authorities.
