“Tjbyp hosted a heifer and beef jackpot show on saturday, april 9, 2022, at the huron community fairgrounds in bad axe, michigan. A total of 70 youth (huron=11, lapeer=16, macomb=3, oakland=3, sanilac=18, st. Clair=5, tuscola=14) from the seven counties in the thumb participated with 101 heifer and steer projects (huron=16, lapeer=23, macomb=5, oakland=4, sanilac=25, st. Clair=7, tuscola=21). The judge provided youth with feedback and learning moments to imporve their ability to show their animal and insight on how their animal compared in competition in their market and breeding classes. This opportunity provides youth the ability to imporve their skills and the bovine to increase their success at their county fair or breeding program.”

“Youth from seven counties in the thumb had an opportunity to participate in an essay and photo contest. Essay topics were age appropriate and showcased knowledge about challenges facing agriculture. For example, what does agriculture mean and how does it affect you, or why have you chosen to show beef cattle? There were ten essay contests participants who received feedback on topic discussion, accuracy of information, originality, creativity, neatness, legibility, grammar, and thoroughness. Writing portfolios were awarded as prizes. The photo contest was "for the love of cows; anything bovine inspired". Photo contest participants received feedback on originality, creativity, composition, and light. Customized photo frames were awarded as prizes.”
