DescriptionGrantsExpenses
FIRST Robotics is an international robotics competition that strives to teach technical and personal skills through the rigors of robotics competition. The Club has 10 teams 71 club members that compete from Aug to Apr. The best way to know that you have learned something is to teach it to someone else. That is why our students will be creating and operating a week long camp for other students in our community. This will cover STEAM topics that the students have learned during their time in the club. How we evaluate the success of our FIRST robotics program isn?t by what we win; it?s measured in the development of each club member. Each club member develops a personal goal & a team goal that we work toward during the robotic season. We emphasize the development of each club member. Most of the time in the beginning of the members? experience, the robots get the members into the building but we really teach soft skills such as communication, problem solving, continuous improvement, volunteering, and teamwork as well as hard skills in the field of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). We know we are successful by watching the members develop into leaders, communicators, mentors, problem solvers, & teammates. If you look us up on Facebook (@steamsuperior) you will see our members developing their skills at some of the (104) community events they have participated in since May of 2022. We know we are successful when we are at these events & the members are the mentors teaching the community in different areas of STEAM. The long term effects of the program, project, and club will be seen, not in the awards that the teams win, but the addition of knowledgeable and respected community members. This can be seen in volunteer feedback from parents, educators, and the community at large.-$36,011
The Superior STEAM 4-H Club has grown to over 167 club members and expanded the starting age down to 3 years old. Each year the club takes on many different community projects. The club members research problems in the community, interview experts, develop solutions & work on implementation plans. Then the club members develop presentations & present them to the community. Our club has a sustainability plan that utilizes Annual Pipeline Programs (APPs). Our APPs include all the robotics teams, the STEM competition teams, the youth members, the volunteer, professional mentors, and the families. It also includes all the activities that the club creates, hosts, attends, and participates in to inspire and teach people in STEAM. The Club hosts Think Like an Engineer, Mechatronics, LEGO Lessons, 4-H Projects for the Fair, STEAM Week, and Osmo Learning for kids 3-18 yrs old. This plan has lead to exponential growth over our almost (6) years of existence. Club members can submit 4-H projects of their choice to be entered into the 4-H Fair. Projects range from animals, to computer science and programming, public speaking, model making, and many more. The Osmo program is loved by all ages, but this class is specially for Pre-K through 6th grade. Using LEGO Education's Spike software, students will follow tutorials to learn how to build and program different projects. For students 3-12yrs old. Think Like an Engineer is a 24 week program that uses club-made and purchased kits to teach students 3-12yrs old about engineering concepts such as gravity, forces, programming, problem solving, and more. The program is led by older student members as well as club and community mentors. Our Mechatronics meetings (for students 12-18yrs old) take the foundations from LEGO Lessons and translates them to real-world applications in metal fabrication, electronics, programming, 3D printing, and communications. Youth wanting to participate do not have to have any prior experience or knowledge from LEGO Lessons or any related workshop(s). The student-chosen APPs are funded by members working concessions stands at IU events, such as: football games, men's and women's basketball games, State High School Track & Field competition, men's and women's Little 500, graduation, and others, The continuation grant would supplement the money raised from the events to continue to make the club free to all that interact with it.
