IT WAS FORMED IN JULY 2017 TO PROTECT ANCHORAGE'S TRANSGENDER NEIGHBORS, FAMILY, AND FRIENDS BY DEFEATING PROPOSITION 1, A DISCRIMINATORY, ANTI-TRANSGENDER BALLOT INITIATIVE ON ANCHORAGE'S APRIL 2018 ELECTION. A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WAS SIGNED BY THE MEMBERS OF THE STEERING COMMITTEE (SEE THE LISTING ON PART 7, SECTION A OF THE FORM 990) TO GOVERN THE CREATION, ACTIVITY, AND TERMINATION OF FAIR ANCHORAGE. A COPY OF THE MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING IS ATTACHED TO THIS FORM 990.THE PURPOSE OF FAIR ANCHORAGE WAS SOLELY TO DEFEAT THE BALLOT PROPOSITION THROUGH ONLINE, TRADITIONAL, AND PAID COMMUNICATIONS; AND GRASSROOTS AND GRASSTOPS ORGANIZING AND MOBILIZING TO SECURE VOTER REJECTION OF THE BALLOT INITIATIVE. NO ELECTIONEERING OR OTHER EFFORTS TO INFLUENCE APPOINTMENTS OR ELECTION TO FEDERAL, STATE, OR LOCAL OFFICES WAS CONDUCTED.FAIR ANCHORAGE DID NOT HAVE MEMBERS, AND IT DID NOT COLLECT DUES. HOWEVER, IT DID COLLECT CONTRIBUTIONS FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC, BUSINESSES, AND ORGANIZATIONS. FUNDS COLLECTED WERE USED 100% FOR LOBBYING ACTIVITIES, AS THE ORGANIZATION HAD NO OTHER PURPOSE. FOR THESE SOLICITATIONS, A NOTIFICATION WAS GIVEN TO EACH CONTRIBUTOR THAT NONE OF THE CONTRIBUTION WAS TAX DEDUCTIBLE IN COMPLIANCE WITH SECTION 6033(E).
